I'm new here... I ended up finding this place after getting ripped off and purchasing a fan edit off ebay about a month ago. Oh well, at least it helped me discover this community and the great work that everyone is doing here. I'm wondering what the general consensus is regarding Mr. Luca$ ever releasing the original theatrical releases on DVD. Don't get me wrong, I think the people who do the fan edits are doing a great job but there's no comparison between them and the stills of the special edition DVDs. My guess is that it's just a matter of time before he releases the originals. Now a days they do 3 or 4 different versions of even the most mediocre of movies (special edition, collectors edition, anniversary edition, unrated edition etc, etc, etc). And all the studios seem to do it so I'm assuming they're making money off them... therefore I can't see how the original theatrical versions of such beloved movies that so many people want to see won't get released some day.

Until then I'll be enjoying the great work of some of you fine people.

If Lucas released the OOT on DVD it will be the biggest kick in the ass to himself because it would by far out-sell any previous altered edition. I don't think Lucas' ego can handle that. It will never happen.

I've often thought the same thing. I'd love to see that happen.

I agree that it would happen as well. I'm not even sure that it's because most people believe the originals are better, but simply because George has been so staunchly against them for so long that it's driven curiosity demand up, not to mention fear that the release would be the last one. So George basically dug his own hole. But since the decision rests in his own hands, he can keep himself from being screwed by not releasing it. Or if he ever did, it would be very low key or a very limited release to keep the sales from exceeding his own vision. Or he could do what he did with the special edition by no longer calling it the special edition. If he does not market the originals as the originals, they will draw less attention to himself. How he could do that with the special editions now being the unspecified Star Wars trilogy would be difficult, but I'm sure his ad wizards could figure it out somehow. That's assuming he'd want to in the first place, which I sincerely doubt.

Well.....yeah that is a little creepy.

But he brought it on himself in such spectacular fashion.

I don't think we are hoping he dies....I'm not.....but it's what has to happen in order for us to get what we want....maybe.

Then again, that sounds like an assassination conspiracy theory....or terrorism.
