Australia has three - ask the audience, phone a friend and 50:50. Now, when I was in America, I saw two versions, one with a female host and another with a male host - I was thinking perhaps that one was in New York and the other in LA or some kind of East Coast/West Coast thing. The fourth lifeline that I saw on the American ones (not sure which one) was a switch-the-question lifeline. Ring any bells?

The "male host" version of Who Wants to be a Millionare? was by Regis Phillbin starting in '99, I think, and I know the original version only had the three lifelines you mentioned. In flipping through channels recently, I've seen a few minutes of this female hosted version. I have no idea who it is, and I was surprised to see that the show was still going on (its appeal having been sapped exponentially after its initial appeal wore off). But being able to switch a question does seem a bit too easy, which is probably why Mrs. Millionaire will never be the next Regis.
And, yeah, sybeman, I remember that Pokemon thing. Sad.
