I actually played around with that scene and believe me, it would take a lot of work to get it to look good. Removing the orange isn't too tough, but removing the same amount of orange from frame to frame is hard. It would look like the ground keeps changing shades of brown underneath the car, which, to me, would be more distracting than the orange blob.

It's not impossible, but such an investment in time will have to wait until the future.

Hmm, I'm no expert but logically I would say the way to do it would be to create a landspeeder-less background by taking any one frame and painstakingly painting out theb landspeeder and the offending blob, and then use this as the basis for each frame, rotoscoping/masking the landspeeder.

Or I could just be babbling.

Anyway, how to do it is a discussion for another thread, but I agree that a special edition should fix poor effects like the landspeer blob (which I believe was originally created by rubbing vaseline onto the film to mak the wheels beneath the landspeeder?) while keeping the story intact (i.e Han shot first, etc).
