So I'm finally getting around to watching this due to my bout with insomnia at the moment. I'm through the first half hour and I can already tell you that a composite job is going to be hard for a number of reasons.

The flick is approximately 13mins longer in this incarnation. So far, aside from the viking opening, there have been two scenes that were totally cut from the final film. Mostly, though, there have just been extra bits of dialogue here and there, which is one thing that would make a composite difficult. Also, some of the effects work is completed and some is not. So far, the bits that have not been completed are quite amusing.

The other thing that would make a composite tricky is use of different dialogue takes and the temp score. For example, Stanley's line "Aren't you due back in the labratory to get your bolts tightened?" is delivered with much less force in this take. A lot of the score is entirely inappropriate for the material. Unless I've missed my guess (and I don't think I have), most of it is Danny Elfman.

I also thought I might point out that the version I have really does not look that bad when in motion. I don't know why this is touted as being one of the most notoriously bad-quality workprints around, I've seen much, much worse.
