At that moment of death, wouldn't Anakin see himself as the Jedi that saved his son and renounced the error of his ways, rather than the desperate, uncertain youth that got him into this mess in the first place. He didn't become the "most powerful Jedi" he wanted to be until after he let go of Darth Vader.
