EU Movies

If you could see a series from the EU (expanded universe) brought to the big screen, which series would it be and why. Also, who would you like to see direct it?

I would like to see the Dark Empire story done because it has that SW feel to it. It also brings the Solo kids in which would be neat to see. Sure the emporers spirit transfering himself to clones may sound a little much but I liked it. For a director I would like to spielberg do it. He's been close friends to GL for so long I'm sure he has a great understanding of how the SW movies should work. Plus he is well versed in most genres of movie making so he'd be a well rounded director for the job.

No EU movies please. Just don't. Star Wars has been tarnished enough.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

Well, I think EU stories could be cool on the "little" screen, as TV series, not movies. It would be too difficult, and surely too long IMO.

I've already said it, but I think that all the "Rogue Squadron" series (novels, comics, games...) could be a really good material for a TV show.

"Shadows of the Empire" could make a really good show as well. Ah, such potential, and they want to make a show with a new story, between ROTS and ANH...

If we are going to have EU, we need to have a TV show that features none of the original cast. They have more or less escaped humiliation and we don't need to drag them into the already disintigrating Star Wars universe.

i still think they should make a NJO mini series, like 15 episodes or something.

Yup, Band of brothers style show about Jedi Master Luke Skywalker (played by Mark Hamill, who is the perfect age) training some new Jedi.

War does not make one great.

In theory, very bitchin'. In the hands of George Lucas and his cronies, it would probably be very un-bitchin'.

Ok, we all agree that the PT was lacking (understatement) but that doesn't mean Lucas couldn't pull it off. Lucas could've did the PT better but for some reason he made it the way he wanted to make it at the time. I know we all love star wars and we feel like it belongs to us in some way but in reality it is GL's story and movies and he has the right to do with them as he pleases.

Look at it from a musicians point of view. A musician can write a song that he/she love and it plays true to their heart but it could get terrible reviews and have alot of people say it sucks. Does that change how the musician feels about the song? Nope. So what's my point? I don't know, my train of thought just de-railed. I hate when that happens.

yeah thats what i was hoping they would make the TV Show about. but yeah, it would be so good. the key would e to keep it away from lucas. No i dont mind him at all, but the thing is that the series would have to be DARK as hell, like pg-13 dark, and lucas cant do that. it would be great.

hear is a question, if they made a series, how would they break down the story from the NJO, what do you think they would include/ exclude?

A Clone Wars-style animated series of Shadows of the Empire would be perfect. And though it would be acceptable to not have the original cast members provide the voices, I don't why Hamill and Daniels wouldn't, and could even see Fisher and Jones coming on board. Ford wouldn't be a problem since he's in carbonite the whole time.

I have to agree with you, Lucas wouldn't make it dark enough for the NJO series. Of course there would be a ton of detail left out but I'm sure we would see chewie die, anakin solo die, little detail about verge, the new high counsil being established, and some cool war scenes but I bet the transfer from book to screen wouldn't be done well enough to satisfy those of us who have read or a reading the njo series. Wow though, to see the moon crash into the planet and see Chewbacca die, that would be freaking intense.

yeah it would, i was thinking about it, and i think they could pull it off really well if they follow the storylines of all 5 hard cover books, and have bits and peices from all the other books to fill the gaps.

It's not just that the PT was lacking, it's just that the whole Star Wars franchise has changed into something quite lame - You just need to look at the whole franchise to see that it is not the same entity that it once was. Hell, just check out Starwars.com, take a look at databank. Take a look at the toys that are being made, take a look at the whole sorry affair and you will see why I don't think a Star Wars TV show, even one with such a cool concept as the one mentioned (Jedi students led by Skywalker) would be all that great. It would be a whole load of flashy fight scenes, midichlorians, cool shiny spaceships and convoluted continuity, which, whatever anyone says, is NOT what Star Wras WAS about. Star Wars was a fairy tale, telling of mystical powers and noble warriors. Now it is just another Sci-Fi show, with endless spin-offs and tie-ins and 'cool' aliens and effects. I don't want to get into the whole 'They are George's Movies' debate, but Star Wars was one thing, and now it is something else, and I believe many will agree with me that the something else is not as good. A TV show would be made now, with the current George Lucas, and therefore I don't think it would be all that great.

Anyway, I really didn't want to get into that, but I can see that you are fairly new here so I just wanted to explain my POV.

Yea, I see your point. It's became more like star trek basically. As far as the toys, the first ones that come to mind are the SW transformers. I'm not really sure why they mixed those two franchises other than for money but at the same time my kids love 'em. But I completely understand your point of view on this and I have to agree. Don't ge me wrong with my post earlier, I definitely prefer the OT to the PT and I was very disappointed with the PT. Out of every slam that I've read on these forums over the past year (I just haven't been posting) I'm sorry to say that the majority I've agreed with.

Anyhow, thanks for clearing up your point.

That's it - it has become more like Star Trek. Obviously the 2 are totally different, but as franchises, they have become very similar.

Except right now, I would say Star Trek has a bit more dignity and integrity.

i donno YIYF, i jsut read your post, and IMHO, it seems that you've jsut grown up. starwars was always about really cool spaceships flying about, thats why lucas spent like 90% of his effects buget on one shot way back when. and the jedi of the PT are all noble warriers, mayby not so mystical anymore, but still noble. i donno your opinion is vaid cause SW has changed, but i think people have just grown up alot more and so things no longer appeal to them. i.e. the new starwars stuff. here is a good example, i got up the otherday and watched some sat morning cartoons. I used to love them shows like Spiderman, and Digimon,(the first series was awesome), now i turn it on and i got shows that are just weird and stupid. and i started watching some jsut to see whats different, and the truth is that there isnt much change, it the sam shit, it jsut that i am older now and i can no longer suspend beleif(i think thats the saying) in the story of the show. its just too laughable.
