Birds of Prey intro - Mark Hamill's voice for Joker

I found this intro to a long time ago cancelled tv series called "Birds of Prey". It has Mark Hamill doing the voice.

Here's the video

I think that's the only footage of the Joker with Mark Hamill's voice(someone else was standing there though) in the show. The network wouldn't let them show more then a few seconds of Batman/Joker. I watched a trailer somewhere else for the show(I won't post it here. PM me if you want to see it) and, I remember now why it was cancelled. The horrible miscast for Alfred he was the Jar Jar binks of the show. He just didn't fit if he wasn't in the show at all the show wouldn't have gotten cancelled in my oppinion.

Here's everything you'll need to know about this short-lived TV series - on the WB - cancelled after just 13 episodes (well, 14 if you include the unaired pilot)

Birds of Prey Online

Gotham Clock Tower

I believe Rikter has this on his release list - I keep meaning to ask him about it - I have a couple of different versions of the unaired pilot on VHS and the series on 2nd generation VHS.
where have i been all this time ?

Short answer:
The story was about Catwoman and, Batman's daughter Helena Kyle.

Longer more detailed answer:
Using some of Batman Returns, the animated series, the 60's tv show and, the earth 2 story for the backstory. The Batman Returns parts they used was pretty much a lot of it. The animated series parts they used was Harley Quinn and, some of the other villians. The 60's show just a variation on the Batgirl costume for flashbacks. The Earth 2 story was the Catwoman and, Batman's Daughter part. My memories really fuzzy on how the early episodes came about. What happened in the early parts of the story is that Batman either got tired of fighting crime in Gotham, he couldn't deal with parenthood, or he found out about some other place that had more crime at the time. So, he left Gotham for a while. Meanwhile, the Joker got arrested(mabye for shooting Barbara) and, was sent to a maximum security prison outside of Gotham. Harley couldn't find out where he got sent to so, she became a phsycologist. Similar to that of Batman Begins Dr. Crane. Barbara Gordon became the oracle. Somehow, Helena Kyle comes into the mix of things I don't remember how. Then, becuase of little Bat presence in New Gotham crime becomes worse. There are a few mentions of the Robin's but, they don't make an appearance on the show at all.

4) Why was it cancelled?

I read somewhere that there was a lot of behind the scenes drama going on. The WB or, DC didn't want more then a few seconds shown of Batman/Joker/Catwoman and, none of Robin didn't help either. The ratings were supposedly average not bad just average. So, one of the owners of the series decided that it was too much trouble to continue the series. So they ended it after 13 episodes.

I still think it's becuase of the horrible miscast for Alfred though. Totally wrong for the part. If they didn't have Alfred in there(or got someone right for the part) it would have been a fantastic show. Though, there was no reason for him to be there at all. [edit]But, I still think it's a good show that got cancelled before it's time.[/edit]

He was the voice of the Joker in the animated series, so he already had experience in the role. lol
I didn't know he did the voice for Birds of Prey, though.

maybe...and this is just a hunch...but maybe it failed because its called BIRDS OF PREY. http://67.18.37.16/2087/182/emo/19.gif

If I saw that a show called "BIRDS OF PREY" was coming up next, theres not a doubt in my mind that I would change the channel...fearing some sort of national geographic-esque documentary.

Mark Hamill should play the Joker in the next Batman film. I really believe that. Anyone see him as the trickster in Flash?

Umm... Didn't he film "The Flash" like, a long time ago? The guy will hit 55 this year. I don't think he can physically be the Joker. But I toally agree that he should be the voice and then have someone be the "actor." That would kick so much ass.

And this short lived TV show looks pretty cool. Did the Joker have a decent sized part? Because that would be the main reason for me wanting to watch the show.

I don't think 55 is too old to be the Joker. Might be cool actually. I also think Mark Hamill should Star as Jedi Master Luke Skywalker in a 12-part band of brothers style Star Wars TV show, but that aint never gonna happen.

Jack Nicholson was 52 when he played The Joker and most people liked him in it. Hamill deserves a comeback - his performance holds the OT together. If the PT had performances like his, you might forgive all the other stuff.

The Joker only had a few seconds like I said above. So, if you watch the video in the first post and, this music video(It says unaired pilot at the beginning but it's just a music video) that's pretty much all the screen time the Joker had. The Joker had no lines in that scene so no Mark Hamill involvement in there.
