I MAY be getting a proper copy of THE PHANTOM EDIT from another fan VERY soon - SO I MAY have the version with commentary for Episode 1!!!!!! (again MAYBE)

I tried my best to obtain a copy from the source. He was a very nice guy in his response, but said he could make no promises. That was right around the time of my last post in this thread. I was hoping to have something nice to offer to the community, but alas...If you come across the DVD version of The Phantom Edit, I will eagerly await the day it is uploaded to the site where I get everything else I have received from you. Or hopefully I will be able to be a part of a PIF process to distribute the edit to others. I cannot stress how much I LOVE his version of Attack of the Clones. I know others prefer Magnoliafan’s, or ADM’s, and that is perfectly fine. Both are superior edits to Lucas' version, especially ADM's. I just feel the Phantom Editor approached it with an editor's, and story teller's, mentality, and he nailed it. If you do happen to score a proper dvd version of the Phantom Edit, please do what you can to bump it to the top of your list, if that is possible. I know you have others who are all the time wanting you to bump each and everything you offer to the top, so I don’t want to be a pest about it. I’m just very excited about the possibility of actually being able to love a version of The Phantom menace as much as I now do Attack of the Clones. I love ADM’s “A Vergeance (sp?) in the Force.” I want to be able to compare the two. Here’s to hoping it works out!

NO with the DVD it's real V.2 as when he first did the edit there was only VHS, once the DVD came out he redid the edit (no real changes) added a commentary track and menus

Is anyone up for trading me the Phantom Edit DVD? I shot my ratio at Demonoid and can't download anymore from there. I've got plenty available, please either PM or email me at reverendbeastly AT gmail DOT com.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

I just watched The Phantom Editor's version of Episode 2, and it's 100% better than the theatrical cut. The guy definitely can edit.

Kudos to you, Phantom! If this had been the version I had watched in the theater, I still would have been disappointed in some of Lucas' choices, but no where near as crest-fallen as I was.

Does anybody know if "star wars ep 1 - the phantom edit - dvdrip no jar jar iso" on the bay of pirates is the new remastered dvd with commentary?

It isn't. It is similar to the Phantom Edit DVD but attempts to remove Jar Jar from many more scenes. This of course creates giant continuity problems and most of the other editing is rather half-assed too. I wouldn't recommend wasting time on a download of it.

Well thank you. So, could someone maybe contact me about a trade/PIF for the new dvd quality version w/commentary?

How would you ever know whether it's PROPER or not, unless one of those three people is the phantom editor himself ?

You're a demonoid member aren't you ?
gigshaft, the seeder, says he has a friend-of-a-friend connection to Mr. Nichols.
Might or might not be PROPER, but at least you can hear the commentary....

Incidentally, the original VHS-sourced version is called Episode I.I, but the DVD-sourced version with commentary is called Episode I.II
(not to be confused with MagnoliaFan's 1.2 redux of the Phantom Re-Edit a.k.a. East coast version)

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

- If it has commentary then it's proper the versions I released was a transfer of my VHS tape and the VCD version, Mike (aka The Phantom Editor) has ALSO offered to send me a copy but that was almost 2-3 years ago now and he has since stopped emailing me after I reviewed the MagnoliaFan edits. (hmmmm.)

- Yes, but I really do not download that much stuff (my brother has used his wireless to DL some stuff from there though), But I only upload stuff.

- That's cool to know!

Yes @demonoid

gigshaft seeded both I.II and II.I

Actually he seeded I.II twice -- first as an ISO but his PC crashed midway through, then he switched to a Mac and reseeded as a DMG file.
The torrent comments tell how to convert it back to ISO.

When I ran the conversion, the program gave a non-fatal error message when a 32bit variable overflowed, presumably because the total file size is greater than 2^32. Despite the error, the resulting ISO seems to work fine on my standalone player.

Never satisfied, for grins I opened the old torrent with my converted ISO. I was 99% complete. Another peer was still hanging on to the old torrent, and he had the missing bits, so between us we had a distributed copy. We both finished, as did at least one other peer who came along later.

That old ISO torrent got deleted eventually, so if you go to demonoid now you'll only find the reseeded DMG.
I suspect gigshaft didn't understand how we were able to finish the ISO torrent, since he had never finished seeding it.

Anyway, the moral of the story is:
Even though the DMG > ISO conversion isn't identical to the original ISO, the VIDEO_TS files within them are identical.
If you see an error message during the conversion, you should still end up with correct VIDEO_TS files.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…
