No. Then some chinese medicine guy told her that impurities in drinking water are actually a good thing because it helps our body to develop it's immune system. She thought about it for a day, then went back to buying Evian.

Maybe I should tell her the Thetans will get her if she doesn't have my dinner ready when I get home.

P.S I've read the book of Morman (out of curiosity - I wanted to understand what I was mocking). I don't personally buy into it, but then again I don't really buy 100% into the original bible either, but if you do buy into that stuff *the bible I mean), why is it so hard to believe that an angel visited some guy in Utah and told him the location of some tablets containing extra bible chapters? I'm not saying that I believe it or that the founder of the mormans was for real, but imagine if he was, and he really was visited by an angel. Jesus himself was mocked for the things he said. It's something to consider at any rate.

Having said that, Scientology requires no consideration. It's crazy. And Battlefield Earth is a CRAP movie.

My understanding was that Big Love was about a polygamous sect of Mormonism if not the official church. Two major clues: It's set in Utah, and more importantly, the two slutty girls at the fast food restaurant were snickering about the devoted followers of Moroni. I might have been putting 2 and 2 together and getting 22, but I do think the show is based on the many offshoots of Mormonism in Utah/Idaho who still practice polygamy, even if the practice is unsanctioned by the mother church.

Harry Dean Stanton's character "Roman" mentioned 4,000 attending sacrament the previous Sunday. The disclaimer at the end mentioned the study that found 20,000-40,000 (theres a W-I-D-E range for any statistician) practicing polygamists in the U.S. I did the math and realized that Roman isn't some small leader of a cult like the Branch Davidians. If you're preaching to 10-20% of all the active polygamists in the U.S. that's quite a following. No surprise that he travels in a caravan with bodyguards, and no surprise that he's hiring PR consultants to improve image and reach.

This show looks to be quite interesting.

They're offshoots, alright; just don't call them sects. There are no sects of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the official name); Mormonism doesn't come in different "flavours". One of the tenets of the Mormon church is "being subject to kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates in obeying, honouring and sustaining the law." Since polygamy is illegal, the Church does not practice it. End of story.

You'll notice I haven't made any value statements on the Mormons or polygamy. For the record, the Mormons I've known -- and there have been several -- have been generally better people than most mainstream Christians. I may wholly disagree with their religious beliefs, but I can't say that their religion hasn't made them good people. Regarding polygamy, I find it far easier to support than gay marriage. Solomon, the wisest king in the Bible, was said to have a harem of 1,000 wives, so the ban on polygamy isn't biblically motivated. So long as all parties are legal adults and willing participants (i.e. no "secret" wives) I find a law banning it just another form of government intrusion into privacy. It serves no purpose other than to keep some lucky or industrious guys from hogging all the chicks while the loser from High School gets none. That guy had to go into politics and create a law in order to get his fair share.

The great irony is how many men in society fantasize about multiple female partners. I guess that's okay for a one night stand or shooting a porno, but a lifelong commitment? Stopping that evil threat is an important use of our time, energy and resources.

But getting back to the topic at hand, Scientology is just plain nuts. I'll make that value statement here and now. On the whole I'm extremely tolerant of other faiths. But unlike what I said above about Mormons and their genuine goodness in my experience, I have yet to see a Scientologist I respect, much less like. Founded by a crackpot, it's a self-help clique with a pyramid structure that is based on falsehood, paranoia, deception and greed. The religion is not spiritual. The science is not scientific. Retention tactics breed paranoia within the ranks. And the recruitment methods make it the Amway of religion.

When was the last time you saw a Scientology missionary go to the destitute section of town to help heal those who clearly need the most entheta cleared from their soul? Never. Because they don't care about the spiritual well-being of the whole world. It's about money and social status. There's a reason why the Church of Scientology is based in Beverly Hills and not Compton.

I have degrees in Psychology AND Religion. Scientology purports to be both but it is neither. Not by a long shot. Tom Cruise, you don't know Psychology. You don't know the History of Psychology. I do. You and your Scientologist buddies are a cancer on rational thinking. It is even more medically irresponsible than Christian Science, because it doesn't rely on faith to heal, it relies on falsehoods. Shame? Nope but he is a celebrity and has money, so...

Which makes me ponder... Being someone famous does not make one inteligent, that's a clear fact to me. Or maybe fame brings on a constant paranoia and a break from the normal reality in a way that any wacko can rip them off their money as easy as Scientology does. Their minds are so f**ed up by the constant attention, all the money and all that distance from a normal life, that they simply snap. They do stupid, silly thing like joining a scam. The other people who join these kinds of things are either so desperate they accept any mild brainwash and accept any crap they're told, or also away from any reality.

What Tom Cruise has done, pubicly speaking against psychology, is CRIMINOUS, and he has no idea the harm he is causing. I just wish the US government simply did something to stop that scam cult and put Mr. Cruise on his knees, as he realize what an idiot he has been.

I'd LOVE to see a group of Hollywood producers who aren't afraid of Scientologist intimidation and retribution create a similar show that totally exposes that cult-fraud in a similar way. Or maybe Morgan Spurlock can infiltrate the religion for 30 days and document it on film. Now THAT would be the best film that would never see the light of day.

Penn and Teller wanted to do a Bullshit show about Scientology, but their network would not air it for fear of legal actions.

Teller talked about this on his radio show, he made up the fear of gettting sued. He is working on on Scientology ep for this season.

LOL @ the Amway reference, dude...I would be wary, though, of basing your assessment of a religion's credibility on the behaviour of its adherents. There is no doubt a place on this Earth where self-professed "Christians" are antagonising another group of people - that doesn't mean that Christianity is a dodgy religion.

By all means, break down the beliefs and have a go at it for what it is, but if the legitimacy of Christianity was to be determined according to the behaviour of Christians, we'd be screwed...

Seriously, how could Tom Cruise believe in this nonsense? I mean how could anyone not already mentally unstable fall for it?

I'm trying to figure out why Isaac Hayes even is a scientologist. L. Ron was a noted racist. He once wrote to his wife when she complained of having to get on her knees to clean the floor, "Get yourself a nigger - that's what they're made for."

My apologies to all who are offended by that word. Direct your anger at L. Ron, not me, as they're his words. Though I've seen this quote in many locations, perhaps it's best attributed to this article which originally appeared in the Clearwater Sun.

So, this story just took another turn:

"South Park" has declared war on Scientology. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of the animated satire, are digging in against the celebrity-endorsed religion after a controversial episode mocking outspoken Scientologist
Tom Cruise was yanked abruptly from the schedule Wednesday — with Internet rumors it was covert warfare by Cruise that led to its departure.

"So, Scientology, you may have won THIS battle, but the million-year war for earth has just begun!" the "South Park" creators said in a statement Friday in Daily Variety. "Temporarily anozinizing our episode will NOT stop us from keeping Thetans forever trapped in your pitiful man-bodies... You have obsructed us for now, but your feeble bid to save humanity will fail!"

This is going to be interesting. And you know, if Penn and Teller, and then South Park, and possibly the simpsons (although nancy cartwright IS a scientologist!!!) did a spoof on scientology, and TV started to make debunking stories about it, this scam would fall apart!

Yes. Put those con-artists on the defensive and destroy their pathetic excuse for a church!

Eh, they can get someone else to play Bart Simpson. Tara Strong could always use ANOTHER job.

if i remember correctly, The Simpsons did make fun of a religious sect once in "The Joy of Sect". it wasn't really about scientology but the cult leader pretended he was building a space ship and then he ran off with it with all the money he made from the followers but the space ship (which was only a bicycle i think) broke down and he got caught.

and the trivia bit on www.tv.com says that "It's very ironic that Bart would make that "Church, cult, cult, church" comment, since he's voiced by a member of the Church of Scientology (Nancy Cartwright)."

that episode has some really good quotes:

"Rev. Lovejoy: This new so-called religion is nothing but a pack of weird rituals and chants designed to take away the money of fools. Now lets say the Lord's prayer 40 times, but first lets pass the collection plate."

"Lisa: It's great that we can all think for ourselves again.
Announcer on TV: You are watching FOX.
Family (robotically): We are watching FOX"

Holy crap. And people accuse us southerners of racism! What a total joke this whole blasted thing is. I hope if Hayes has any chldren they dis-own himor something. This is the most blatant hypocricy I thnk I've seen from a celebrity the etnire decade.

Okay, I'm gonna try to counter this in a civil mannor. This topic is making me pretty angry. Not because of Hayes' hypocrisy. Sure, it's a shame, but I don't know all the facts, and besides, everyone makes mistakes. His just happen to be publicized on Yahoo News!

The thing that's really making me angry is how some of you are reacting to the news. For example, the post I quoted. Why on earth would you hope a person's family DIS-OWNED them just because they, as far as you know (may not even be the case), made a mistake? So what if he baught into a scam, people are fooled ALL THE TIME. That doesn't mean you need to be ANGRY at them.

I'm going to give you an example. In the example, I'm going to use a celebrity, even though I think it's completely ridiculous to worry about what a celebrity does. Anyway, here's the example: Say that JESSICA ALBA did a show that made fun of people who use drugs. It shows how people who use drugs are "stupid." But then, later in the series, the creators made an episode that made fun of alcoholism.

Jessica Alba decides to QUIT the show, because she's a BEER SPOKESWOMAN and she doesn't want people to think badly of the product she's promoting.

This is the exact situation as Hayes quitting South Park, only the South Park situation deals with RELIGION instead of substances. You can argue that religion is ABOVE substances and therefor deserves more scrutinizing, but according to you guys, Scientology shouldn't be considered a religion, it should be considered a scam. Scams and addictive substances seem to be pretty close together, in my book.

Now, would you really wish that Jessica Alba was DIS-OWNED because she, arguably, made a mistake? I mean, the way I look at it, you don't know anything about her personal life. You don't know why she promotes beer. Just like you don't know why Isaac Hayes believes in Scientology. As far as you know, Jessica Alba might not even DRINK beer, just like as stated earlier in this topic, Isaac Hayes might not even be practicing Scientology, but is merely in a situation where he can't leave.

On that operation clam bake site, they talk about how the higher-ups in Scientology keep a file on all their members, with confessions they've made. Some Celebrities are black mailed into doing things like quitting a show because it bashes on Scientology.

I mean, have you wondered WHY it took him so long to speak out against that episode? It originally aired way back in NOVEMBER. That's 5 months ago. It's kinda odd that he just ALL OF A SUDDEN noticed that they were talking about his religion.

Now, this is merely an assumption. I don't know Isaac Hayes' situation, but the point I'm trying to make is, neither do you. You don't know why he's in with that church, what he does at that church, or if he even believes in that church.

All you know is the VERY little bit of information that was posted in these two short articles. That's hardly enough to form an opinion so strong as to hope his children DIS-OWN him. Besides, let's agree for a moment that he REALLY DOES believe in this stuff. Let's say that he actually feels very strong about his religion. Would it really make him a bad person? I mean, sure the scam artist could be considered a bad person. The person who lures in people who've lost their sense of direction and don't know what to do with their lives, for his own selfish agenda. But that does NOT mean that the people who he's lured into his scam are bad people.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure there's no such thing as evil by association. Especially not when the association is, apparently, victim.

So, what I've concluded is the fallowing:
1) We don't have near enough facts to judge this man.
2) Even if the facts we've been presented with are true, that still wouldn't make him bad. Just a confused human.

-edit-
Oh yeah, I forgot one thing. Darth Chaltab, at the end of your post, you say that this is "the most blatant hypocricy I thnk[sic] I've seen from a celebrity the etnire[sic] decade." Why should that even matter? I mean, honestly...

There are only two times I can think of hypocricy affecting your life, and that is A) When someone you personally know is a hypocrite. Or B) When a politician is hypocritical. I can't think of why a celebrity's hypocricy should even matter in the long run (or short run, for that matter). Why on earth would you honestly care about how someone who you've never met before, and probably never will, acts? Does it honestly affect you so much that you would wish for the person to have a bad life (in this case, his family dis-owning him)?

I know this is probably only between you, Jaster, and Chaltab, but i'd like to put my two cents in it:
first, you put a lot of emphasis on chaltab's comment that his family should disown him. now, in my forum "experience", i've noticed that people tend to exaggerate when they feel strongly about something, so i do not think that he meant it in the sense that if he could sell his soul to the devil he would wish for Hayes' family to disown him. i could be wrong though, it's just the impression i got.
second, well it is blatant hypocrisy on Hayes' part, even if it's true all the facts are not known. South Park is a show that satirises EVERYTHING. not only religions, but also celebrities, politicians, ways of life etc. Hayes has worked long enough for the show to know this. Many many many groups have been offended by things South Park stated, Hayes is not the first one.
BUT I agree when you say that he might have been blackmailed into doing it. Still, he could just have quit the show, giving other reasons maybe. and if scientology demanded he should say openly why, then he could have toned his comment down.
I think this discussion maybe started to focus too much on the cult, and not on the actual news, I understand that is what makes you angry.
Although, I have to say that it IS weird that he waited a couple of months to resign...I don't know what to make of that, maybe his scientologist friends started to ostracise him and make him feel guilty.

Yeah, I'm sure he was probably exaggerating. But that doesn't mean I can't debate his exaggeration. I mean, whether he was exaggerating or not, he still posted it. Besides, it's an exaggeration of is actual opinion, so we're still debating opinions. Just debating them in exaggerations.

Oh, I know it comes off as a hypocritical gesture on Hayes' part to quit a show like this for the reason he claimed to quit. That's not what I was trying to argue. I just think it's ridiculous to act like he's some kind of LOWER LIFE FORM because he quit, since we don't know the whole situation. We don't even know Isaac personally, so how can we begin to judge him based on two short internet news articles? One of the articles was basically just Matt and Trey talking about how stupid he is, it didn't even mention anything from Isaac's point of view. I'm not saying it doesn't come off as hypocritical. Obviously it does. But it's like I said at the end of my other post: 1) We don't know the whole situation, so we can't fully judge it. 2) Even if the facts we've been given are true and there's nothing more to the story, and Hayes really is a big hypocrit, that doesn't make him a bad person. Just means he's human.

I mean, sheesh, we're all hypocrits at some point. It's like lying. It could be considered bad... But it's still a natural part of life. His life just happens to be posted on the internet, and so he attracts derision from people on message boards.

Nah, that's not what really made me angry. Obviously, any topic that mentions Scientology is eventually going to turn into a discussion on just that: Scientology. The thing that made me angry is how some people seemed to act like Scientologists are BRAIN DEAD IDIOTS. People forget that they're humans, who just got tricked, which is normal... They're not bad people.

That's where I think some people, especially people who are just finding out about Scientology, forget to draw the line. Thanks to shows like South Park, there are now a bunch of teenagers walking around going "MAN SCIENTOLOGISTS ARE DUMB," when what they should be saying is "MAN SCIENTOLOGY IS DUMB."

It's like... A drug addict is NOT a bad person. My sister was a drug addict for a few years, and I know that she's a great person. It was the DRUGS that were bad, not her. Do you see what I'm trying to say?

I stand to what I said, that scientology AND scientologists are stupid and I have no regreats over my comments. I understand your point of view of not being able to judge Isaac Hayes, and I somewhat agree, but in no way he is right or should be supported. If he chose to follow a pathetic scam then he should deal with the consequences of that foolish act.

Not to mention every other controvesial subject period. It's only wrong to step on toes when they are his toes, it seems. Then again, at first he didn't seem to have a problem with it from what I've heard. People are suggesting that he didn't really care but the higher-ups in the cult put pressure on him to do this.
