As for IC, I think we are going to find that the has been a secret plot going one since or before the events of COIE . I think we will find out that in COIE Barry wasn't tryinig to warn everyone of the Anti Monitor, he was trying to warn everyone of Superboy Prime. I think Superboy Prime is going to turn out to be more powerful and threat than we think he is. My money is still on Lex Luther of Earth 2 being behind it all.

They do sound interesting and like many things had totally passed me by during my last dormant period of comic reading. C'mon- buy 'em, read 'em, review 'em... NOW!

sean- manga are comics so there's no reason not to talk about them!

Can someone rattle off some essential Superman reading?

Also, I was wondering, are there any cool Superman comics involving the Parasite? i.e. any must-reads/must-haves?

Hmmmm....I never read too much Supes until recently. I would say that you may want to start with the Death of Superman group of TPBs. They include The Death of Superman, World Without a Superman, and The Return of Superman. Also, the recent Sacrifice TPB is a must have, IMO...not only to catch up on the current Infinite Crisis lead-ins, but also I think it will be a massive addition to the established Supes "canon". As for Parasite...not really familiar with him.

On the note of Kingdom Come: I'm about 55 pages in. WOW on the artwork. Fantastic. Also, the story so far is good, but a little slow. Still a good read overall. Alex Ross is a genius.

And the current crop of Infinite Crisis comics - are they rewrites of the old ones or re-issues?

TPB = Trade PaperBack....collections of multiple issues reprinted in one softcover volume.

Infinite Crisis is a massive story arc that has been in the works at DC for over 4 years. It's a brand new story that pretty much seeks to do what the original Crisis on Infinite Earths did...turn the DC Universe on it's head. There were 5 seperate tie-in miniseries leading into it: Villains United, Raan-Thannagar War, Day of Vengence, The OMAC Project, and the Superman: Sacrifice storyline. There was also a series about 2 years ago called Identity Crisis that really set the whole thing in motion. My favorites in order of preference:

OMAC
Villains United
Sacrifice
Identity Crisis
Day of Vengence
Raan-Thannagar

The Infinite Crisis series itself (7 issues) is fantastically done. Great artwork, great story. There are also tie-ins in the regular monthly titles of other books. Also, after IC is done, the entire DC Universe "skips" ahead 1 year in continuity, with each title publishing "1 Year Later" issues and there's also a 52 issue, 1 a week series called "52" that deals with the IC fall-out.

If you're interested in reading any of the IC arc, I'd suggest not reading too many of our past posts on the subject. We're careful to mark spoilers, but you never know.

Ah! That makes sense - I got confused between Crisis on Infinite Earths and the Infinity Crisis. So they're not really related stories at all (other than the DC 'cleaning-house' aspect of it)?

I've read synopses on each issue of Crisis on Infinite Earths, just to make sense of what is going on in DC now (with all the pre-Crisis/post-Crisis mumbo-jumbo being thrown around).
MTFBWY. Always.

Crisis on Infinite Earths has SIGNIFICANT bearing on the IC story. If you're interested, I'd start with the original Crisis, then move into the IC tie-ins.

*EDIT* As a matter of fact, if you don't read the original Crisis first, you will have trouble understanding what's going on in the main IC story arc.

I'll second that motion! If you want the bare minimum to catch up, I'd read 'Crisis On Infinite Earths', 'Identity Crisis', 'Superman Sacrifice' and then 'Infinite Crisis', in that order. The other series are various levels of greatness as well, but tend to be a little more 'side story'-ish. Then again the more you read the more fullfilling the experience is.

Well... SPOILER.

At the end of IC#5, from the design of the belt the Flash that emerged infront of Superboy Prime was clearly Barry. What he's doing alive and how long he will stay alive is anyone's guess. I jsut hope Wally returns eventually.

True but... AT the end of COIE when Wally took up the mantle of The Flash the costume was the same as Barry's... so maybe *someone* just picked up a retro costume while cruising around the speed force- you never know!

But remember he told Kimiyo that "we couldn't hold him"... And who was holding him when we last saw SuperBoy Prime? Max, Johnny, and Barry Allen!

I definitely agree that SB Prime seems to be much more powerful than you'd normally expect. I'm just hoping he gets some smackdown soon...he's a little annoying.

Maybe Kal-L will knock some sense into him...

Though it really looks like he and Lois were the only sane people in the Paradise dimension. Superboy-Prime is like a deranged kid with a chaingun who thinks he is right. He has an enourmous power but not the emotional maturity or mental capacity to use it judiciously. Hence Pantha looses her head.

On the other hand, a friend of mine thinks that he is actually going to survive the Crisis and become a recurring villain.

Hmmmm....an interesting take on it, and I can imagine them doing this. As to why he's doing this, just don't forget Mr. Didio's comments: It's Puberty, DAMMIT!

My greatest fear is that they're going to leave the multi-verse intact. I can deal with Earth 2 being left over and repopulated. Anything more and I'll "Make Mine Marvel" for the rest of my life...

Has anyone picked up Infinite Crisis: Secret Origins? I picked it up this morning and it seems good so far. It gives a lot of the background on why Alexander and the rest are doing what they're doing and it's written by Marv Wolfman.

I was going to get it Thurs. but my LCS was sold out though supposedly getting more in this week. As a random purchase I did get Marvel's 'Annihilation Prologue' and it was entertaining in a cosmicy kind of way. Don't know if it'll get me to buy the rest of the series (and associated minis) but I wasn't disappointed I bought it.

Well, I just finished Kingdom Come, and I must say...WOW. The story I thought was good, but the real treat was the artwork. Just amazing. Ross' work is quite powerful and moving The tears streaming down Marvel's face when he finally realizes what's happening is unbelievable.

Have you read any of Ross' current series "Justice"? The artwork there is amazing too and it is largely a retelling of the Superfriends/Legion of Doom conflict with a much more modern sensiblity and some awesome, awesome visuals. No giant Darth Vader head though; it doesn't need it!

Yeah, it is pretty slick and a good tale, although I haven't read the latest issue yet.

Well, I just finished IC: Secret Origins. Very cool. It does fill in some of the whys about the whole thing. It's worth picking up, though it is $6.
