I've always wanted to make a fighting game where Sonic KICKS MARIO'S ASS. Of course, that was when I was 8 and I hated Nintendo. I respect Nintendo now, but I still wanna see Sonic kick Mario's ass in his own game.

Mario with a lightsaber has (sort of) been done. Both Smash Bros. Melee and the original Smash Bros. had a lasersword item that anyone (including Mario) can put up at use.
from IGN Guides: Like the bat, the Beam Sword can help turn the tides of battle. Everyone calls this one the Light Saber for obvious reasons, but that makes Mr. Lucas mad, so quit it. If you use this laser weapon correctly, you can really whack your opponent high into the air. You can of course pull a Darth and throw this weapon, too.
That means they would have had to insert a whole nother set of animations for EVERY one of the characters attacks because Game and Watch was built with sprites instead of polygons. Which probably would have been worth it, but also probably didn't even cross Nintendo's minds.
As for the game, I'm simply stoked out of my mind that it's gonna be online. I can Smash people in EUROPE! Yippie-Kai-Yay!
You know, I'm not sure he was made with sprites. I think he was actually made with polygons, but programmed to have the stagger and repetitious look of a sprite. Something like that would make the programming aspect of the game more consistent.
Well, Don't quote me on this, but I think they essentially gave him just one flat layer polygon, just 2 dimensions, and then pasted sprites of animation onto that polygon like they would a texture. At least that's how I assume they did it, because you can pause it and turn the camera to where you're looking directly at his edge, and he dissapears completely.
"The Dead Poet's Society" had some stupid poitns (why did the kid kill himself when he could have just told his father to STFU?) but the ending was powerful.
