Personally, it isn't the generalizing that bothers me. Though I can see how that would lead to hostile debating. Nothing is more infuriating that saying one aspect of the Saga is imperfect and being told what your opinion of everything else. You are so right - and it would be wrong to stereotype all the users on TF.n or all the mods in the same way we get stereotyped.

The real beef is that one side of the fence moderates biasly against the other. Or that a group of them work in tandem - coordinating through PM - to 'attack' critical opinions.

I think it is safe to say that there is a very specific group of fans who are fanatic. And generalizations about this group aren't really generalization - simply definition. And a lot of people fall in the middle, who don't really have a side. And even a lot of OT fans - whom aren't bashers per se - are attacked by the "fanatics" simply for being critical. For example, O-OT fans are all labeled "hypocritical" because some support fan edits, which 1) is a direct flame and 2) has been ingrained in the community through repetition by gushers and 3) supported by mods; when that is simply not true nor should be allowed by any TOS or respectable forum.

People are people. And that's where most of us differ from the "fanatics." We're not devout, we're open-minded people who like somethings in the Saga and dislike other aspects, and realize everyone has an opinion. But to this group - we are all enemies.
