We'd never notice Movie_Rebel (whose animated old-film "studio logo" is way cool, by the way) is anyone out of the ordinary if we didn't have the Daniel_B's of the world to contend with, too!

Ummm ... wow and thanks. Rather unexpected, especially for this edit. I'm usually a man of many words (as my posts indicate) but I'm scrounging at the moment. Fortunately typing isn't like public speaking and I can take a moment to gather my thoughts. You'll read these straight through and it'll read like a speech, but know that I'm really working to put my thoughts together.

I can sum up my feelings in one statement: Never has one owed so much to so many.

But in typical ADM fashion I guess I'll blather on anyway.

I'm in the company of some great folks here, but I guess the biggest props need to go to Ridley Scott. It's all his work, just rearranged. I've often wondered if my edit is closer to what he would have done were he not at the mercy of Dino DeLaurentis to deliver a 2 hour picture. I hope reworking the ending alone made this a worthy follow-up to Silence of the Lambs.

Thanks to DAYV for envisioning the contest and to all the judges for slogging though the mass of entries. It's an unenviable task you all took on.

Props to Boba Feta of course for doing some outstanding artwork on this film (as well as all my SW edits). Not to mention The Cassidy who's been doing a bang-up job on many of the titles that weren't submitted into this contest. And of course to my very dear long-time friend Darth Enzo for his work on Pearl Harbor. So you all know, Darth Enzo is responsible for waking up my sensibilities to good cinema. He planted the seeds that took me from being an ordinary movie goer to one who could appreciate the role of the director, writers, and everybody behind the camera other than FX wizards. He's also the most talented undiscovered entertainment writer I've ever read and I hope he'll contribute a regular column on the new and improved board when it arrives.

ALL of you fellow editors have done good work. Some of it I've seen, some I'm still trying to get to, but the raves do speak for themselves. I'm glad that we have such a close-knit family here that supports each other. Creativity on this board is busting at the seams.

I sincerely hope this not only inspires more fans to take up editing as a hobby, but also helps get Hollywood's ear in a positive way. I implore every one of you reading this ... buy the official release. Compare the fan edits to the original film. Don't let this become a way to steal from Hollywood or to stick it to them. Think of it as film school without all the boring lectures or subjective grading.

And lastly, because the PiF system has gotten these edits into the hands of the judges rather my hands, I intend to donate my prize in some manner TBD. I'll talk with DAYV about options. I have adamantly stood against this hobby as a profit-generating enterprise even in the slightest. I think of this as the right thing to do, else I inadvertently profit from the work.

Thanks again to everybody. This truly means something special.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

As Henry Woolf said at the beginning of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, congratulations!

Maybe I'll actually enter this next time.

Another person whose work should definitely be entered officially next time is movie_rebel: not only did I receive a full reimbursement for those stupid Canada Customs duties, etc., but I've watched part of his T2: Cyberdyne Cut disc, and it's very impressive! Thanks, movie_rebel!

I' d love to know more about this edit anyway. What is it about, what does the cover look like, what are the features and why was it done?

The Cyberdyne edit came to me complete with cover and disc art. The front of the cover is a slight modification of an original cover, but the back points out all the features of the disc. The disc itself features some extras, with an original trailer (used as part of the edited film) and some before/after scenes with selectable audio. To be honest, I haven't finished watching the whole film, but the edited parts I did see were very well done.

Like ADM and Dickey Betts, I was born a ramblin' man, but I'll try to keep this at least semi-brief.

Thank you immensely to Dayv for devising and administering this contest, and to all the folks on the judging panel for all the hours they spent looking at each of the entries and deciding their merits. Thanks also to ADM for starting a project that lit that spark of inspiration in my head.

I freely admit that I haven't gotten to see a good many of the fan edits that have reared their heads around here, but those I've watched tell me something about the editors: they're creative and smart of course, but also stubborn perfectionists. If adding or extending a scene improves the movie as a whole but causes a contradiction or WTF moment somewhere else in the story, it's easy to let it slide. You guys don't. You try to find a way to make it work, and tweak it until it's right, or at least as right as it can be.

The same goes for the cover artists. I'm continually surprised by people on this forum who come up with completely original ideas as well as new spins and nth-degree refinements on classic stuff. I've seen guys who started out with good ideas but crude skills grow to put out very good work, and folks who started off showing very good work get even better. I consider myself blessed to be in the company of such creative people, and I'm honored that the judges saw fit to recognize my work.

Thank you again, and I hope to share more stuff in the future.

I downloaded Hannibal by ADM some time ago from myspleen, but wasn't too impressed, since the movie did have its lengthes before and stretching it with all the deleted scenes made it even longer. Still the alternative ending was far better than the original one. As for the editing and the picture and sound quality the job ADM did was just great, especially compared to CBB's Hannibalized edition, where the deleted scenes looked far worse (although I liked Hannibalized better as a movie). Still I wonder, how Pearl Harbor could not have been the winner. Most people think this to be one of the best fanedits ever done meanwhile Hannibal hardly ever gets mentioned.
