Poor Chief Tyrol - seems like Ron Moore has a penchant for punishing anyone who carries the rank of Chief in one of his shows (Chief O'Brien from TNG & DS9 regualary was regulary emotionally and physically abused and tortured)! Perhaps he never got on with the engineers and non/coms from his navy days...
