Do any of you have that Mortal Kombat hook up to the tv game?

I thought the special moves sucked in MK - not the moves themselves, but the movements you had to make to execute the move, especially fatalities. It's not as 'organic' at SF as far as movement goes. MK2, IMHO, was the ONLY good MK game in history. And it was good because it was packed to the gills with funny, over-the-top stuff.

If you're looking for a strategic, fair match with as much depth as possible Street Fighter is better. If you're hangign out with some friends who don't play much, Mortal Kombat can't be beat.

A dream game for me would be a 2D fighter that has characters from Capcom vs SNK, Marvel vs Capcom, Darkstalkers, AND all the Mortal Kombat characters put into a Street Fighter mold. They'd have all their special moves intact, but they would also play by Street Fighter rules and all be unique instead of clones like they were in the first four games.

While the SNK characters were somewhat easy to blend with the Stree Fighter ones - although Capcom had to re-animate the whole SNK characters so it wouldn't look weird - it wouldn't be possible with Mortal Kombat. Apart from the 3D ones, the characters were always actors filmed. Also, the game play is not very similar with Street Fighter - would you imagine a SF character doing a Finish Him or a Mortal Kombat character doing one of those combos?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

I loved both games back in the day. And I still play them on my MAME emulator. If I had to choose one, I'd have to say MK just because it was more "realistic", I love fatalities, and I liked the story better. I used to be able to beat SSF2 on SNES on the hardest setting without having to continue. MK2 and UMK3 were much harder.

Speaking of MAME, here's my custom made joystick:

Hence my whole "in the mold of Street Fighter" line. I was actually reffering to literally redrawing all included MK characters as sprites with unique animations and everything. Speaking of which, I wonder what characters from the MK Verse it would have?

Scoripion undoubtedly, Sub-Zero. Though Sub-Zero might be too powerful.

Then again, if an Ubmermensch like HaohMaru can make it into CVS2, I don't guess SubZero has a problem...

I pick MK over SF. Both are fun but MK seem more action packed.

I also would vote MK over SF from there Films.

i always preferred 3d fighters over 2d...the Tekken series is by far my favorite, and Street Fighter EX plus Alpha 2 can't be beat...the loading times are painful, but the gameplay is fast & fun

Well, for 3D fighters, Virtua Fighter and Soul Caliber can't be beat. They (and more prominently Tekken) have stolen some thunder from 2D fighting games in recent years. Pretty much the only way you have a 2D fighter do well outside the niche markets anymore is to have it on a handheld or as part of an anthology or crossover.

ON the otherhand, I've heard good thigns about the Guilty Gear series.

I LIKE THE TEKKEN GAMES, BUT 4 WAS TOO DAMN EASY.

Yep, the Virtua Fighter games are the only 3D fighters I can get into. I used to play VF2 on my Saturn all the time.

It sort of pisses me off now that my PS-playing friends used to go on about how crap the VF games were in comparison to Tekken, even though they never played them. And now VF4's on PS2 and everyone's hailing it as the best fighter ever made.

But I still think Street Fighter Alpha 2 & 3 kicks everything else's ass.

Are we forgetting Soul Calibur?

And would the Super Smash Bros. games be ranked in the same league as these other fighters? Cuz I love those games.
