oh yeah! ... this ending kept us really busy. The alternate ending on the DVD features incomplete CGI effects and looked really bad, but still this ending was much closer to what we wanted. I am really glad this project is over When Buddhists' say "the way is the goal" they definetly do not mean film editing.

... and actually that was one of the major reason why "Doomed..." went into the contest. It was so much work and it differs so much from the original, so I thought this would be very fitting for a contest about fan edits.

That doesn't matter. The judges are humans and they will make personal votes, which is perfectly ok with me and the thing I expect anyway. Still I am pretty curious about the reviews and scores. I wish this contest would have been easier for you, Dayv, but yet it is great you are already planning the next one. I envy your patience.

yes, it is a romantic comedy, a chick-flick and no legend of any kind, but it is one of these movies that can make you feel good. We took out most of the kiddie humor scenes and put in two of the deleted scenes.

movie length: 1:27:47
original length: 1:33:47

VERY nice cover. SO much better than the official one.

Unbelievably, these graphics 'artists' are paid for work as bad as the above cover.

I'm interested to see what you've done with this movie too. It was a fun throwaway movie and <looks around to check wife isn't reading >, certainly can't complain about Jennifer Garner.
where have i been all this time ?

Our next project:
VIOLETS (a final analysis fanedit)

This movie from 1992 was spoiled by its terrible showdown finale. Our edition is going to correct that and also change the overall mood from Stars Stars Stars to a very well acted thriller that should not be forgotten.

We will try to keep all 3 languages included on the DVD (english, german and spanish).

WOW, I just watched the War of the World edit, and it was pretty good. At first I was wondering how you could edit out a whole character but you did a pretty good job, to bad he still showed up in some of the backgrounds. Also would have loved to see this as a DVD9 release, it appeared to have compression artifacts, at least on my setup.

thank you for your comment. You are right, we had some quality issues with WOTW, even though we chose a higher bitrate than in most of our other edits. The original DVD quality of WOTW is a shame, especially for a high tech science fiction movie of today. Then we had the really annoying and this time unsolvable interlacing problem (there are several scenes, where you can clearly see stripes in scenes of heavy movement), which was caused because we used so many different video sources at once and our software couldn't handle it right. And about Tim Robbins in the background... yep, he is there and you can you can spot him at least once quite clearly, but we required this scene with Tom and Dakota. Most of the time we erased Tim by creating additional shadows that move with the light sources of the movie, but that was not possible there. But if you stay focussed on the action it doesn't matter. We showed the movie to several people, who did not watch the original (so they would not look for Tim Robbins anywhere) and they realized the movement in the background but did not think much about it, since there was no explanation given and the movie just went on. A hard compromise for a scene. And just when we finished converting the final version that you saw, our editor program denied to open the save file again... (it was the first time and last time we used ULEAD MEDIA STUDIO PRO 8). There was nothing that could be done about that. Since we had been working on the video material for weeks already (especially to cut Tim Robbins out), we had to make a choice and decided to use the final version, because it was sufficient (which is a terrible word to write, when you want to produce quality). Of course we are still proud of our movie and consider it an improvement over the original.

I am glad you enjoyed the movie, Segaflip. Thanks again for your feedback. This is what we lack the most anyway.

Just watched WOTW TEC last night and I must say I'm impressed.

I hardly recall the original version; only that it was quite disappointing.

I like what you've done with the basement section, quite impressive. You can hardly see Tim Robbins in the background. The only giveaway is the transitions (Fade Vs Cut) and the rythm that is higher than the rest of the film, but it does merge in well and I guess if I hadn't been aware that that section was edited, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

I was also quite surprised with the ending and can't recall being such shots in the original cut. It comes out quite well.

I liked your credits, it's been a long time since I sticked around untill the end of credits.

That brings me to the only two remarques I would have :
- Why keep the Boston sequence as a dream at the end ? I don't feel it surves much but I might be mistaken.
- The end of Justin Chatwin (Cruise's son) is kind of short, but I don't remember how the original one was. You probably did as good as possible with the available material.

I also watched Matrix Dezionized a couple weeks back, and was also quite impressed.
My comment will be kind of shorter since between seing the original ending and your version, I've been threw an "accident" which resulted in partial amnesia.
I'ld summarize my memories of the original ending by saying : All that for that !
I basically liked your version and was glad to see Lambert Wilson was still in as was the motorway scene.
Apart from a few sound cuts that were noticeable, your edit was pretty much seemless and Less was definetly More !

So to round it up, i'ld say : Keep up the good work and great thanks from France !

PS: I made disc art for all the edits that didn't contain any. I would be happy to provide them to you, if you wich.
