Thought I'd just chime in and let everyone know how things are going on this project. Also, Ive seen how every one else keeps people interested in their projects by posting regular updates...so for those who are interested....
Firstly, a bit about the name. In case anyone was wondering about 'The Scrapbook' attached to the title. While I did think about leaving it as 'The Sith/Clones Revealed', I feel calling it a scrapbook sums up the essence of the movie in one simple word. That's essentially what these movies are...scrapbooks. The BTS footage has just been inserted, or slapped on, over the video and audio track in the relevant places (although obviously it's more complicated than that, or it wouldn't take me so damn long). In the end, what you have is a video scrapbook of the making of the film. Plus, y'know, I think it sounds kind of snappy.
The film itself...here's where I'm at. I'm partway through my 2nd run through of the entire movie, scene by scene. First time round, I get everything in there, where I want it, tweaking up the insertion of each clip to as 'finished' as it can be. Second time round, I've not only had new material to sift through, I've had access to the soundtracks, which has given me a lot more flexibility to add extra time to scenes, where I've needed it. At the moment, I'm up to Watto's scene, going through the film slowly.
Here's a brief breakdown of how the film looks...
Opening scene/ landing plaform...starships approach trimmed where possible to shed dead time. Some short clips of Natalie, in costume, on soundstage.
Palpatine's Office...this scenes a bit sloppy I'm afraid. Very little coherance between the shots I have (Samuel, full costume (BTW most shots are full costume so I'll stop mentioning that) walking on to set, Kit in make up, one shot of behind camera on Palpatine). I've tried to add to this with a couple of production shots and comic panels.
09:37...After Fett handing the slugs to Zam, the comic has a page of dialogue between Yoda and Mace regarding Anakin. I've included these panels, with a suitably 'brooding Jedi Masters' music cue from the soundtrack.
The Chase...Here's where gets good so I'll break this one down even more...
Anakin and OB burst into room.
Nick Gillard describes jump, stuntman goes through (against greenscreen), stuntman comes out onto crash mat (3 shots).
OB starts running, greenscreen performance takes over, final greenscreen jump, animatic jump out onto droid, pre-viz story mode. following shot- Anakin against GS running, from the bloopers
OB/Droid sliding comparison shot, plays next 2 shots til...
Animatic/final shot sliding comparison of droid slamming OB's hand into the wall
Anakin's run to speeder, normal into bluescreen performance, as normal til...
Back to OB- various shots of OB hanging from droid against bluescreen, pre-viz and animatics.
Jedi Poodoo - Shot of George and Ben Burtt in editing suite, watching scene.
Anakin, bluescreen close up.
Zam - 2 pre-viz shots, of different actress, in costume mock up
OB falling - animatic, bluescreen, stoaryboard, with bluescreen/animatic/final sliding comparison shot of the catch.
I could go on, but I'd rather spend half hour before bed working on it.
Hopefully this will be a start to clue people in and generate some interest, because not only do I love it, but I think (hope) people will find it an interesting and fun watch.
