THE FAN EDIT CONTEST HAS A WINNER !!! REVIEWS IN OFF TOPIC FORUM — Page 11

I gave a lot of people the same score on extras--because extras are just that, extra. I weighted them a little less than I did the edit, which is the point of having the disc. Besides, most fan-produced extras are REALLY lame. I mean horrible. To me, not having to endure them is a plus, as far as I'm concerned

That said--I don't think I gave ANYONE a zero for ANYTHING. So maybe I'm not the Russian judge. I'm the Chinese judge

i guess that makes me the russian judge. i wonder who the nice judge ended up being?

Hoo, baby. I go and spend a nearly OT-free day -- mostly spent watching all three CBB edits, no less; how's that for irony? -- and I miss all the fun.

I apologize for being the late judge. I guess I approached this a little differently than most: I wanted to have all the entries in hand before I started watching, so I knew how many items I'd have to go through, and how much room I should be leaving for ranking everything. I also wanted to watch the original films that I hadn't seen before I judged edits (I missed Haute Tension, but I think I got the right flavour of the original through the deleted scenes included on the CBB edit). Also, maybe it's because Canada Post sucks, but stuff trickled in over quite a long time period after the contest closed. I don't believe there was ever a definitive listing of entries supplied, either, so for a while there I was half-expecting something else to turn up. And then there's the Japan thing, which came at an inopportune time. I'm with DAYV: things didn't go as smoothly as any of us had hoped, but I'd like to think that the end result will still be fair (if later than originally anticipated) and the next contest will be much more tightly and timely run, based on the lessons learned this time. No harm, no foul?

Boon, I understand your frustration. I'd be a little choked, too, I suppose, if things took longer than expected. I don't think you're doing a particularly smart thing by openly complaining about it, though. There are still judging cards out there (mine!) that don't have your scores written in ink just yet!

Luckily, I'm not a vindictive sort. Well, OK, I sorta am, but in this case I will certainly accept the criticism without too much argument. I do think you're expecting an awful lot from a free, fan-organized, volunteer-judged contest. It's like you're expecting your gift horse to be Seabiscuit, which I think is a bit unreasonable. In hindsight, though, I think we can all look at aspects of how this thing went down and figure out ways to improve the next version. But what's done is done (or as yet undone...); no use in crying over spilt milk.

My marks and comments will be submitted by mid-week. Let me also add that I appreciate all the entries, and I'm really impressed (so far) by the effort that all editors have put into their work! This judging gig ain't so easy...

At least we all had some fun in finally getting to read some emotion. Karyudo, thanks for your statement, I think you did pretty well there, but of course I don't think that being loved or hated by my comments has anything to do with your scores. The reason for me to complain about one person delaying the entire contest was that no one else did it and I felt that this had to be said. And after reading the posts that were made after, I don't regret it. Maybe even you feel better since things were finally spoken about.

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

I REALLY DIDN'T WON'T IT TO BE SPOKEN OUT LOUD. THE REST OF THE JUDGES AND I USUALLY SPEAK TO EACH OTHER VIA PM, EMAIL, OR OVER THE PHONE. I'VE DONE MY BEST TO LET THE CONTESTANTS KNOW A LITTLE BIT OF WHAT'S BEEN GOING ON VIA PM, AND THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENOUGH.

And rightfully so, speaking for the officials of the contest. But maybe this has to do again with culture or the country you live in.

Thanks for the info, ricardo! But it begs the question... why don't they just call it "Silky-Smooth, Hazelnut-Flavored Chocolate That Comes in Several Styles Including Milk Chocolate and Bittersweet Chocolate" flavor?!?!? That would be SO much easier!

... its as if those Swisss have a different word for EVERYTHING!

In another stunning coincidence, one of the things I bought in Japan (while not watching entries...) was "jyanduya" chocolates for my wife for Valentine's Day.

I had to look it up, too.

hey, you can't help what other countries call their weird, but surprisingly good, chocolates. we just have to live with it and move on.

DEAL WITH IT! the bastards.

I *think* it means.... well... errr... uh, like in the USA we are willing to wait for our ice cream because we are either A) more selective or care more about what flavor we end up with or B) we are capitalist imperialist swine who want all the ice cream in the world. Or something.

And I think in the pic I posted the two upper right hand flavors are light and dark boobie flavor.

I started out reading this thread today and felt like Admiral Stockdale. But now I feel more like Tom Carvel.

Thanx for the explanation Greencapt. Exactly. Let the Wookie do the talking and we will all get more icecream. ...and Bizzle: stop picking on me.

I'm not picking on you--your comment was silly. At least it looked that way to me. So I asked what the hell you were talking about, and that your proclamations "Finally, some real emotion" "You're probably not nice anyway" "Maybe it has to do with your country's culture" seem to be pretty, well, WEIRD in context of this contest. Which is why ADM felt like Stockdale for a second there.

Who am I? Why am I here? GRIDLOCK!!!!

(You know, I bet even Admiral Stockdale would enjoy boobie flavored ice cream. Just not Jane Fonda's.)
