Yeah, it's the director's cut. I watched it a couple weeks ago. The Coolio murder case is kind of a weird subplot, but the extra 30 minutes--the movie was expanded from 103 minutes to 133 minutes--definitely improves the movie.

However, I think your memory deceives you. I don't think they did the sort of subtle editing that you believe you noticed, but rather, inserted several completely new scenes, and expanded existing ones.
