STAR WARS: The Torrents thread — Page 54

It appears not to be the newsgroups version - I tried to seed and got 57.1% complete.

Here is a question - if I connect with those files, will I send out bad information, or is that whatever percent accurate?

Thanks.

{I also got SE Hype several months ago from a.b.sw and it comes in at 19.1%.}

It's probably the fixed version of Empire. I think Metallaxis posts all his OCP torrents directly from the DVDs he's gotten from me. The "bug" version of Empire is pretty rare! Unless someone got it from the newsgroup ...

Indeed, it is not the newsgroups version

If you connect with bad data, you will not send bad information. The bad data will fail the hash check.
You will probably receive the good data from another guy and replace your bad data too.
And now, for your feature presentation:
The Classic Re-re-re-release of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back.
In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

I have the newsgroups version, can someone tell me what the bug is? I noticed the emperor easter egg doesn't seem to function properlly, also it doesn't chapter jump in the chapters options. Does anyone know if there is anything else wrong with it. I feel a download coming on.

I plan to live forever, so far so good.

That's the only error with that version.

In the bug version, you can't access the emperor scene from the "easter egg" menu.

You can of course access the emperor scene from within the film itself. Switch audio tracks to hear Ian McDiarmid's voice!

Hi guys! I'm totally new to the boards and torrenting and pretty much everything else here. First off, I would like to commend everyone on there hard work and willingness to share it with the fans. You guys rock!

I'm currently downloading my first torrent of editdroids version of Star Wars. I have a pretty decent cable connection but I'm only downloading at between 35Kbs and 45kbs. At this rate, it will take over 27 hours to download the file. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,
arcadayn

Hey man, glad to hve you! That download rate sounds about right. If you want to try another download you could try OCP's Classic Editions of the OT thay are great.

Thank you for the welcome! I've seen the OCP edit mentioned in a few recent posts. How is it compared to editdroid and tr47 mixes?

OCP Movie is different from both the EditDroid and TR47.

EditDroid and TR47 are transfers from the laserdisc editions (I think both are from the 1993 laserdisc edition, but that could be wrong). In either case, they represent the transfers of the best available ORIGINAL versions that were released to the theaters (there are some fairly small changes, nothing major).

OCPMovie, however, did something very different. He used the official 2004 DVD releases for most of his footage, since--despite our (and I include myself in this) complaints--about 90 percent (according to him) of the DVD footage had no additional effects added, either for the 1997-98 Special Edition release or for the DVD release. Then he used Moth3r's PAL transfer--which is like EditDroid and TR47--from the laserdisc for those scenes where changes were made.

Each has strengths and weaknesses: OCPMovie has a better picture quality for much of the film, of course, but (a) there are transitions between the official DVDs and the laserdisc transfers (although they are handled VERY smoothly) and (b) I think--but could be wrong--that there are SOME very, very minor changes from the original editions that made it through (which is understandable, given how Lucas handled it). [Because the biggest change, IIRC, is the Lapti Nek scene in Jabba's palace, there is a menu option to skip it entirely!]

The EditDroid and TR47 versions are not quite as clear, for obvious reasons, but laserdisc transfers are as close as you'll come to getting the original versions of the film.

Neither the transitions in OCPMovie's version nor the quality of the transfers has ever interfered with my enjoyment of the films, so take that for what it's worth.

In other words: Use that bandwidth. Get 'em all. All three of these are really, really amazing pieces of work.

LOL. That sounds like grudging acceptance of my edit, kmcherry. Glad I won you over.

Weeellll, Lapti Nek is restored. You ARE watching the old versions when you watch the Classic Editions, any changes that slipped through are of the incredibly minor variety. There is one shot in ANH which I'm kicking myself about. =)

In this ONE case, I decided to leave in some extra footage of Oola shot in 1997, as kind of a tribute to Femi Taylor. (Jedi is poorly directed anyway and I think the scene works better with it.) The menu option is to skip that, because it wasn't in the 1983 version of course.

The interesting thing about the Classic Editions is that they combine audio from several different versions of the film to create an "ideal" sound mix which hasn't been heard before. Which I think is fun. And there's a commentary on Star Wars.

No, no. I was already won over. You had me at "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away"--those ARE still the opening words, right?

I was just really impressed that you would make that an option; it just signifies the care you put into the whole process. Like I said on the artwork thread the other day. . . the talents people in this forum have are amazing to me, since I have no visual skills whatsoever. I think Terry Gilliam once called it "ivvisuallite." (He put John Cleese in that group, so at least I'm not alone!)

And yes, any remaining changes from the 2004 version are REALLY minor. I didn't mean to suggest otherwise, and I haven't yet caught the ANH slip. Which I will go attempt to do now!

My first post, just like to say thanks to the people doing these edits of the Star Wars films, wonderful stuff! I've only just discovered them.
Anyone know of what has happened with Darth Editous version of Star Wars, I haven't seen it around for a while.

I just finished downloading OCPmovies ESB. When I tried to burn this to dvd I got a "dvd video file realloctaion failed" message. I burned the dvd anyway and it plays on my PC, but not on my dvd player (Panasonic DMR ES20). Are there any fixes for this?

I burned it 2 ways, wither by burning as a DVD ROM which had wonky results with my friend's DVD player, but played fine on my computers adn DVD players except for one which Just plain doesn't recognise the disc.

The other way is to run it through DVD-Shrink. I know there's no copy protection or compression necessary, but it seemed to give me the best results and played on all four of my DVD players

Can someone help me? I am downloading the EditDroid versions from myspleen. Star Wars is done and I am seeding, but Empire & Jedi are just crawling along. Can someone seed these for me? Please, please, please.

Yeah, I've been going back and forth between Editdroid and Cowclops for Empire. They both suck right now. The only edit that has any seeders is OCP, which I can't get to run on my dvd player.

I'm seeding both of those right now but my upload bandwidth is garbage. But I'll keep seeding as long as it takes. Just be patient.
