Rikter has a DVD of toy ads on it. Don't know exactly how many or the sources for them, but you might want to look into that for this project. I know that it sounds greats.

YES!!!!!!!! Just had to show my support for this, I can start hunting around for ads if need be.

Have you got Rarities 3? That was full of toy adverts mostly from SW and Empire, and Power of the Force.

Rarities 3 is a great disk for adds. If only it didn't quit at 57 minutes into it. I'm not sure if anybody has the full disk or not. I have searched high and low for a complete copy.

How does it "quit?" I figured what I had was the whole thing. I assume it is.

It's weirdly missing Jedi era material, but apart from that a nice source.

Ok, you've caught my attention with the Rarities 3 disc! Are you sure it's got POTF ads on there!!?? Ocp goes on to say it's missing ROTJ era stuff and POTF was released in 1984. Ah I think you mean the 1995 POT range don't you. I am only interested in vintage thanks.

I would be interested in getting a copy of this. Particularly if someone has a good disc that doesn't crash/quit.

Daveytod - thanks for the list - but I already have all those ads. And if they are in WMV format I doubt that are much better quality than the ones I already have. Could you perhaps post a screengrab of the Land Of The Jawas Playset one?

Thanks
J

OCP. Playing the Rarities 3 in my PC it will only play 56 minutes in. Just playing the VOB files on the disk it stops half way through the 2nd or 5 on the disk. The last 3 are unplayable. Hopefully somebody out there has it.

As long as the Kenner ads are intact I am interested in getting this disc.

My disc is fine I think. It has a lot of DVD ROM extras on it.

You should consider including the 1997 era commercials, Jamie. Many of them are narrated by Mark Hamill in a ridiculously goofy manner. Wonderful to see how the marketing changed - they're travesties compared to the originals in many ways!

Perhaps I could add them as a special extra. Ocp - would you be willing to send me your disc?

Jambe I can send you the rarities 3 disc as I'm in the UK like you. For what its worth I think I sent OCP his copy too. And like everyone else on here it cuts off around the 56 minute mark.

Some of the babyhum releases feature vintage palitoy ads, are you interested in those?

That would be great Sven, thanks! I have the Babyhum clapperboard release with some of the Palitoy ads on it. Are there other Babyhum releases with toys ads on them??

Its hard to know how long the rarities 3 disc was supposed to be originally. The the torrent that was available was from a DVD bought at a stall, according to the guy who posted it, the bought 'original' was also 56 minute long. It still doesn't account for why the torrented 1.95GB image file tries to burn a 4GB disc though, resulting in two corrupt VOB files that are apparently 0.99GB, but in fact contain NO data. OCP, I re-authored your disc slightly to remove those phantom VOBs, and filled up the spare space with the DVD-ROM stuff.

[edit] Jambe, I've just checked the babyhum discs, and you're right, its only the clapperboard one that has the Palitoy ads. My bad. Doh!

I remember the rarities 3 disc I downloaded from a.b.starwars also seemed to be corrupted; I think Segaflip mentioned this in either his or the newsgroup thread.

Yep it was stated in the nfo file that it was corrupt, after the newsgroup release it hit torrents so I would guess that the torrent one is also corrupt. Lots of people pointed out that it was only ~2gb but burned at 4gb.

I think that Rikter has all the stuff from Rarities 3 included in his BLAK10: Classic Kenner commercials. And his stuff ought to be in a bit better shape than Rarities 3 is.

Indeed, although it could be a case of vice versa. I have the DVD from the 'sladinki' site torrent from April 1st 2005, and this version has no .nfo file. Although, by the sounds of it the .nfo file re-iterates the issues I raised in the sladinki thread. I'm curious to know which came first, torrent or newsgroup release - when did it hit the newsgroups?

[edit, after Number20's mention of BLAK10] I always wondered if Rarities 3 was in fact Rikters disc. Is there anyone with both discs who can say how they compare?

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of helping a friend and collector to put together the definitive DVD of Kenner Star Wars Toy Adverts

I have and old VHS from 1992 along with a number of DVDs bringing the total number of ads to roughly 90.

The DVDs are from transfers of 8mm and 16mm reels, producing pretty good quality results. However, the VHS is a 3rd (or more) generation copy of another reel with the title caption "Star Wars Toys Historical Reel". I am trying my best to source the best available quality, and this is where I need your help.

Does anyone out there have a decent copy of the VHS mentioned? As I said, it was doing the rounds in the early 1990's when vintage collecting really took off again.

Additionally I have seen the toy adverts that one of the Holiday Special DVDs comes with, as well as those fantastic Palitoy ads on the Clapperboard release, so I don't need a copy of those.

If you have any Vintage toy adverts at all, please drop me a line. Any screen shots you have would be useful.

Thanks
JD

EDIT: I've noticed that BLAK0010: Star Wars: Classic Kenner Commercials is mentioned on another thread. Is anyone able to post a screen grab to show me the quality of the ads on this disc please. Thanks

I dont have anything to contribute to this release, i just want to say that I have been looking for something like this for a while... I never saw Rikter's set posted, but I would LOVE to see some old toy ads (besides, as you said, the ones on the holiday special and the clapperboard)..... really looking foward to this!

I don't think that Rikter's Classic Kenner Commercials has been torrented or posted anywere. I got them directly from him. If you'd like, Jambre, I can burn you a copy of it and mail it to you.
