FAN EDIT REQUEST THREAD - Post your dream Fan Edits Here!

 (Edited)

I figured we should combine these into one thread instead of one for each request.

This is NOT a thread to ask where to get copies of existing fan edits - this is where people who have ideas or suggestions for fan edits can ask if anyone is interested in taking the project and / or discussing requested projects that are already in the works…

As posted in another thread:

It would be nice to do a fan edit of The Muppet Movie. There's a really obscure cut out there which is longer - I only have it in Pan & Scan and in terrible quality, wish I had it better, as it has a longer version of "I hope that something better comes along", and most notably a better ending - the Muppets talk over the credits! Really amusing, nice stuff there. I think that the ending is actually the same edit visually, only the sound is different (with the Muppets being audible as they talk) ... So it would be possible to make that change easily, just that one change to the ending. Hm.

In the Classic Jedi thread, I discuss the best way to do an extended fan edit of Army of Darkness. I did one years ago. You have to use the Hong Kong DVD, as it's the best quality out there, and "hack" it, a la the Classic Editions. For most of the movie you bypass your editing software and put the raw M2V files directly into your DVD program (DVD Studio Pro), then only edit the extra deleted scenes (the four from the Television cut and Anchor Bay discs). Extend the opening with a bit from Evil Dead 2, and include both endings via seamless branching.

A "Greenscreen" cut of Sin City, minus any effects, appears on the Sin City Recut disc, but sped up to a very fast speed. It would be nice to get that footage slowed down, and synced with the actual movie at the actual speed, combined with any other snippets of green screen/unfinished footage seen in the making of documentaries.

Here are a few ideas I have had. I lack the skills or patience, but I figured these would be pretty neat for someone to have a crack at:

Heat (Action Edition) - This would basically remove as much of the family drama stuff, and the kid trying to kill herself stuff, and some of the other character's relationship drama stuff, and keep only what's neccessary to keep it a lean mean action movie. Might not work, but it would be interesting,

We Were Soldiers (Green Edition) - Basically this would be an edit that included only the moments in the movie when the soldiers are in uniform and fighting, as well as some of the training stuff from before they get to Vietnam - and the French getting killed. As much, if not ALL of the "homefront" wives, and kids, and death notices would be removed.

The above two would sort of be along the same lines as the Pearl Harbor (which was on my wish list, but no more thanks to...) ADM edit, but neither of those two movies are bad. It would only be for personal enjoyment, and not to correct a bad, or missed-opportunity, movie.

One other edit I have always wondered if it would work is Transformers: The Movie. I would love to remove the cheesy hair metal band soundtrack, and replace it with some cool battle orchestral music. I don't know if that's possible, but it would be neat.

Oh yeah, I always thought there was a potential "De-Assified" type of movie in Catwoman. I'll probably go to hell for thinking that, but I think there is a possibility.

I have more that I can't think of right now. Oh wait, a good solid edit of the Godzilla movie could make that better. Somehow remove as much of that blond girl as possible.

Oh yeah, and Hulk could use a good re-working. Somehow take all the flash back stuff, add it to the beginning of the movie, and then tighten up the rest a bit. I liked the movie, but a good fan-edit of it would probably work. Also, someone that did this would have to add the sound of the Hulk changing from the TV show to when he changes in the movie. Also, the ending-credits theme song would have to be added to the end of the movie at the start of the end credits. When it's over the normal music could pick up.

I'm thinking of a few more. Is this what you were looking for?

I would like to request that anyone who tries to edit the original Star Wars trilogy should be given electric shocks until unconscious.

This includes official sources and directors.

I love the movie, but I recently sat down and watched The Good, the Bad & the Ugly and noticed that very little actually happens until the third hour.

I think someone also requested a version of Titanic with all of the deleted scenes restored.

Have a little patience, ShiftyEyes, and ye shall be rewarded. Someone is doing an extended "Titanic" project, but that's all I can say at this point.

What's with the alternate ending I saw listed on the new Titanic DVD? Does the ship hit a sand bar and not sink?

Don’t anyone touch a frame of this classic!

Is there any other deleted footage from Escape From New York other than the 10 min opening sequence? It would be nice to have that incorporated back into the film. But it would be nice if there were other bits and pieces to add.

How about: Nightmare on Elm Street with all the Deleted/Alternate Scenes from the OOP Special Edition Laserdisc edited back into the movie.

what about re-editing the 50th anniversary Deems taylor interstatials and the ending credits in between the 2000 5.0 audio of Walt Disney's Fantasia? that would be the definitive version of Fantasia for me.

I've been toying with the idea of a re-edit of TRON for a few months now. I LOVED the original growing up, but subsequent viewings have made me realize that there is ZERO tension. This edit would try to tighten up the pace a bit and create some actual suspense. And don't worry, the Wendy Carlos soundtrack would remain intact!

I'm very surprised that noone has done an edit of the orginal 1974 Gone in 60 Seconds. The DVD features completely redone sound effects and music. (In the original, most of the sound effects were actually recorded during the stunts.) I'd love to see a fan version that gives us the widescreen video of the DVD release along with the original soundtrack.

I'd love a less whimsical version of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Tone down the kids and their precious antics and cutesy dialect (they were the Jar Jar of their day to me) and track in some Brian May music from 1st two movies. The Jarre score is so un-apocalyptic.
In a similar vein, Star Trek IV with some Horner/Goldsmith instead of that christmas music would be interesting.

I'd second an edit of Batman Begins. I'd eliminate all flashbacks of Bruce Wayne as a kid. Make it more like The Last Samurai

I second that. Although I always felt the children were more like the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi. Either way they need to go.

I'd LOVE to see a compilation of Cartoon Network's 2 Stupid Dogs. This was the show that Craig McCracken and Genndy Tartatosky "cut their teeth" on before Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Lab. It's also one funny show. I recently downloaded the shows from usenet, but the audio is off, and the picture is compressed.

Any takers? I believe they are showing it currently on Boomerang... still no official release.
