what about doing laserdisc transfers of the movies themselves?

did'nt they change the audio and video on the dvd release?

Theres the full screen cav release of Raiders of the lost ark.

The letterbox versions of the trilogy.

They didn't touch the audio or the video of the movies. This was already addressed. Read the thread.

Not to nit-pick, but as we all know, that's not entirely true. There were a few qualitative changes made, none of which affected the overall content of the film. That is to say, the film released on DVD is essentially the same as the one we've watched for years.

The obvious things I won't go over are removal of matte lines and "cleaning" up certain shots, but a 'Raiders' preservation project would be interesting to some.

For starters, Dark Jedi preserved the "Faces" LD Star Wars set, which basically was a DVD back up of the Laser Disc pressings. Good idea, why not for Indiana Jones?

Second, the sound mix on the 'Raiders' LD is different from the DVD, most noticeably in the jungle sequence at the start, and of course throughout the whole film. It's worth hearing, as I believe it is the original theatrical mix.

Finally, it's worth it because everyone should be able to see the film the way it was, warts and all.

If only we could get ahold of the original theatrical cut (from '81, not subsequent release prints) which reportedly had a few additional scenes with Pat Roach fighting Indy in the Raven.

Actually, come to think of it, if anyone wants to make an "ultimate" Raiders package, contact me. I have a few neat things that would make great DVD-ROM content like the original Collector's album and Illustrated Screenplay which would be cool to scan...or something.
