Has anyone ever seen the film Soldier?

I hear that it was the "sidequel" to Blade Runner. Has anyone seen this? I'm planning to watch it, and wanted to see what the general opinion of it is.

I thought it was a decent action flick. I'd never heard that it had any relation to Blade Runner though. Totally different atmosphere and certainly not in the same league.

I keep meaning to, but I never seem to get around to it.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

David Peoples, who wrote the screenplay (and also co-wrote the screenplay to Blade Runner), refers to it as a "side-quel", partly because it tackles some of the same issues, and partly because the spinner cars make an appearance in the film. Other than that, nothing to do with BR really.

Me, I liked it. One of my better Wal*Mart $6.88 bin purchases. Also one of Paul W.S. Anderson's better moments as a director.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Hmm, thanks guys.

Gundark, also, according to BRmovie.com, at one point in the film, a computer screen reads that the main character was a veteran of the "Battle of Tannhauser Gate," which of course would be a reference to Roy's final words in BR.

I finally saw this one a few weeks ago and it was a decent action flick. Nothing spectacular, but an entertaining way to pass time. I hadn't caught the Blade Runner reference though. Pretty interesting if true. Not that I have any reason to disbelieve it, but I'd like to see the reference again myself to archive the thought in my convoluted brain....

Yeah, I like the concept of a film set in the same overall "universe" as another film, yet has nothig to do with it (Ex. the Ewok films)
Author

Yeah, same here. Multiple different stories, set in one big universe, with no other relation whatsoever -- pretty cool idea, though I'm not sure that Ewoks necessarily fits that bill since I haven't seen any of those since they first appeared.

I would like to see more Star Wars stories like that. That is the primary reason I a looking forward to the live-action SW TV series, because I hope it has very little to do with main characters as Lucas says. I really get tired of the same characters, so it should be interesting.

I finally saw it last night. I had read sveral reviews that bashed it a lot. But, after viewing it, I thought it was well-written, well-acted, and... yes, well-directed (dodges tomatoes thrown from all the Paul W.S. Anderson haters). I was surprised at how it has similar themes as Blade Runner, with Todd trying to regain his humanity and all. It also had a nice gritty feel to it. And it was cool to see some of those BR references in there as well.

I hope you guys arent talking about the Kurt Russel sci fi film. Because that is one of the worst films i have seen. I can't believe people are spending millions of dollars to make trash like this when there are thousands of brilliant filmmakers struggling to get films off the ground. This is predicatble, talentless Hollywood crap at its worst. Even as a brainless action flick it is completely worthless.

Yes, that is what we are talking about. I watched it, and really enjoyed it. It shared several themes from Blade Runner, like the wish to be human. I don't understand all the hatred toward this film. I thought it was just a nicely made B-movie like ROTLA or something.

I'm curious to see what you define as "worthwhile filmmaking," just to see where you're coming from.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Yeah, that'd be cool, but I don't think it would work... even if they would have made one in the 80's.
