I just downloaded and viewed the WS sample and I think it's superb. There's just something about the colours of the Japanese Ed that makes it stand out above the defcol. You can even look past the dirt and grit on the transfer because of it. There does seem to be slight signs of a halo around objects. Did you apply a sharpening filter at all? I'm still gonna burn it off and try it out on my WS tonight but I do think it looks very good. The only question I have is: will you have to redo the subtitles if you've cropped the bars top and bottom?

those previews were great. I have a copy of STAR WARS on my computer from the cowclps v.2 set and i would have to say that this is superior with color. And the def col had alot of grainy-ness but this didn't. But i couldn't here the audio (o well).

also is there any interest in this or not,because if not this project is going on the backburner for sometime,i have other things i can work on(like the new anamorphic WS Blade Runner criterion)

Yes, there's interest in this.
Take a break if you need one, but I do hope you'll come back to it later.
As THX said, the SC deserves it.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Russ already talked me into finishing this set,as a matter of fact the Special Collection Un-Subbed ANH 16:9 WS is already done and on disc,but my friend Boba Feta brought up an interesting question that I overlooked,what about the subtitles(for Greedo,etc.)well the subs were also in Japanese,so they were chopped,and I dont know how to add them in correctly,so to get to the point,we all know what is being said there,so F it,there will be no subs added.

1 more thing,these are TOTALLY different than any of my other transfers,now I use a Pioneer Elite CLD-79,and I use avisynth filters,and i encode with CCE SP v2.70.02.06(latest)I also author with Adobe Encore,my menu's are a little better.

OK for any one interested the Special Collection ANH "Un-Subbed" Edition in 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen and 4:3 Letterbox,is finished,now I am going to break from this and finish the 16:9 Anamorphic Widescreen version of Blade Runner Criterion Collection(and like DigitalFreakNYC,then I am finished with BR)then I will go back and finish ESB and ROTJ,in both WS and LB(both are already capped and on my HD)then Boba Feta and I are teaming up again for a Godfather set,more on that later,

So you'll be re-doing this version to include subs in the future is that correct? By the way, did you ever fix the Pan&Scan ANH? I never heard if you did a version 1.1 or anything..

If you mean the "Faces" P&S ANH,yes that has been corrected(the vcr tracking) long time ago,and what do you mean here:

do you mean re-doing it WITH the japanese text?if so absolutely not,Dark/Sega set is good enough on that one
or do you mean,adding english subs?for like greedo's lines,if so i am not(we all know what is being said there anyway),but Boba Feta said he would add them and give me a set when he is done,i dont know how to add sub-titles,hell i am just now learning filtering and converting to anamorphic widescreen LOL,it took over 70hrs just to encode ANH in letterbox and widescreen.

For some reason the Japan Special collection set has much nicer colors than the other laserdisc sets and less denoising of the image. The first u.s. domestic widescreen set was derived from the same master, but the transfer is less nice than the japan release, very odd.

Can't wait to see what you've accomplished here with these Laserdiscs,

If it's anything like your first version you did with segaflip but without the subtitles and centered better on screen, than this should be the best Ntsc transfer period. aleast until the XO project is completed sometime in our lifetimes.

yes they are done(just recently finished),3 versions of each,1 set just like all my other releases,no ivtc,kept it LetterBox,just cropped out the japanese text,then 2nd set,has been filtered,ivtc'd,cropped and Letterbox version,now the 3rd set,has been filtered,ivtc'd,cropped and made 16:9 anamorphic widescreen,but with the Sept. 12th release,I am a little leary about anymore SW releases,these might NOT ever be released now,because I really dont care what anyone here says,I really doubt anyones releases,and this is just MY opinion,I will say it again,ANYONES releases,whether it be past or future,will look and sound as good as what I will be buying on Sept. 12th,and I am buying both NTSC and PAL versions,to make my own anamorphic set.
now i am sure I will bring some heat onto myself,but that is my opinion,I guess we will ALL see very soon how they look and whether or not any laserdisc can even come close to these,we will see

Damn that's a shame DJ I was really looking forward to this one. Of all the Laserdiscs this was my favourite.

I too am dissapointed this is not being released, I have a lot of your other releases and I actually am one of those who cherish having them.
