My grades will probably be in this weekend guys. Sorry for the delay, things have been real busy out this way.

Hope this doesn't put you out any, Dayv. If it does, let me know here in the thread, I'll hustle if I've gotta.

The one really good thing about the CBB group members is that we can all rely on one another. This is such a rare gift. And sometimes I am just glad, my wife is the peaceful Yin to my raging Yang, because compromise in relationships tends to really annoy me.

with this being the first contest, things became a bit haphazard. things will work more smoothly next time. we know what works and what doesn't.

YES, THE NEXT ONE WILL HAVE A LARGER WINDOW FOR SUBMITTING WORK, AND WE WILL HAVE MORE RELIABLE JUDGES TOO. I ALREADY HAVE ALL OF THE PRIZES READY TO TO BE SENT OUT TO THE WINNER. I'M JUST WAITING ON THE SCORES.

I apologize for my late scoring cards. I'm trying to watch everything as quickly as I can, but between a trip to Japan last week, plus being busy with various board meetings held off for my return, etc., I'm going to have to run later still. I don't want to cheap out and not watch some entries, or to just skim anything. That means freeing up lots of hours, and recently I could use more than 24 a day.

I wish I could watch on the train, or while I'm in boring meetings...

Sometimes I just don't like to be a nice and even nicer person all the time. I mean, by all means, I don't even know karyudo, so why not say that you had way enough time to fulfil a duty you signed in for. We are not talking days here, we are talking about months. This is just a shame. I guess now all the nice guys here will attack me for being so rude, but go ahead, I am convinced you are not half that nice if we knew you in person anyway. As participant of this contest I want to say that this judge is not doing his duty right. Yes, you signed in freely, but since then you are obliged to do what you gave your word for, at least until it is finished.

You know... In my country we have a saying: "You don't look a gift-horse in the mouth"

yes, we have the same saying here, but I guess you treat this statement as we do it: as a falsity. If I have a damaged toaster, would you be greatful, if I presented it to you as a gift?

Are you kidding me? The balls on this guy.

Not for nothing, but your groups edits were the most amateurishly done in the entire contest. By a longshot. At least on my card. We'll see if the rest of the judges thought differently but you might be better off if the cards NEVER came in. Sitting around here eagerly waiting to win and trashing Kary because he can't giftwrap you those results any faster? It's amazing how that sort of reaction was almost unsurprising--it's true the personality of the artist does come through in the art, because that same kind of narcissism is slathered all over your edits.

calm, and quiet, down.

If I have a damaged toaster

I imagine if you had a damaged toaster, you'd draw "THE CBB GROUP PRESENTS: BROKEN TOASTER--THE HEATING COIL EDITION" on it, and punch random holes in the side, and then offer it for download on a torrent site with Cover Art, a slideshow, and a making of, showing you shoving a screwdriver through the sides of the toaster.

Nah, your way wrong here. It should be: THE CBB GROUP PROUDLY PRESENTS: BROKEN TOASTER--THE HEATING COIL EDITION. Now finally someone here has an opinion AND a mouth to say it. Sorry you didn't like our edits. The toaster thing is really funny, BIZZLE.

All the little mini flame wars all over this board lately are a refreshing change as of late. It reminds me of the good old days when we would fight for weeks about the relevance of a single change in the Special Edition.

The one over in the "Star Wars Covers" thread was primed to go atomic....sadly it did not.

i might be slapped silly by the bizzle on this, but i enjoyed cbb's edits. there were much worse edits submitted.

as far as the wait, what can a person do? dayv's decided to wait out the final judge's grade card. he respects his opinion (if he didn't, he wouldn't have been tapped to judge). honestly, i do too.

plus, karyudo was in freakin japan! real life does take over once in a while. give the guy a break.

LOOK, THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT WE HAD THIS CONTEST. THINGS DON'T ALWAYS GO AS PLANNED. NEXT TIME IT WILL. ALL WE CAN DO NOW IS ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES.

IF ANYBODY SHOULD BE PISSED WHEN IT HAS TO DO WITH THE CBB GROUP EDITS IT SHOULD BE RIKTER AS HE DID ALL OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE EDITS TO THE JUDGES.

Without Rikter, we would not be participating. Not only that. Rikter is the ONE distributing the fan edits (including CBB's) to all the non-downloaders around. If it wasn't for him this entire scene would be much smaller, I think.

i'll admit, rikter is who introduced me to the scene and I am forever grateful. but he is not the only contact available for non-downloaders... not by a longshot. but i'm sure you know that.

Oh, hell no. I'm not gonna slap you around because you liked their edits. Hell, I wasn't even gonna slap BOON around for his edits. I just didn't like em very much. But when he called out Kary like that, that was the only reason I piped up like I did.

Although I like the "PROUDLY" presented slapback. That made me grin, but still, I think it'll be a travesty if the CBB edits place any higher than 5th. Although I might have judged on different criteria, even with the cards. I took the edit's effectiveness as an overall movie, not just technical skill per edit. For example--I thought ADM's Pearl Harbor Edit was pretty damned good, technically--but it didn't help the movie at all. And so I graded the edit down, because the whole point of these edits aren't to show off technical skill, it's to make the movie more palatable for the audience watching it. Ultimately, that carried the most weight, with me. Although I did appreciate some real skill and forethought and planning when it showed itself. Those factors weren't minimized at all.

I'm getting the feeling I'm going to be "The Russian Judge" in this contest when everything shakes out

That said, I don't think this contest has really gone all that poorly. Maybe expectations were a little too high, but I've been involved in a lot of these type of messageboard contest things, and this one's going about as well as the others. It's just the nature of the beast, here.

Mackey: I dunno--I like that it's not flametastic here all the time. Although that Pepsi flamewar thing in the covers thread--I like Coov's covers, but dude DID sort of have a point, a lot of other covers get buried in that thread. I can see why someone would call foul because everyone really DOES spooge all over Coov's covers. But there's usually a reason for that. Hey, if his stuff is overshadowing other people's covers, it's understandable. But I can see why someone woudl be frustrated by working on a really nice looking cover only to get blown off one page later when Coov sneezes--and still somehow manages to make a cool cover out of it.

I graded the discs as a whole, not just what they did for the edit. what really brought the scores down for me were the lack of extras. i really didn't count just having a menu as an extra. if the disc only came with a menu and the edit, then i gave them a zero in that category. turns out the bulk of my scores were lower than i thought they were going to be.
