Harrison Ford's Feelings about the Holiday Special

I'm so glad this got posted so I could see it. Though it looks staged, it's clearly some of the best egg-on-face footage since Geraldo opened Capone's vault.

Are you sure Harrison Fords reaction wasn't from Conan showing him one of the prequel movies?

I can see Harrison Ford flipping the channels one night with Callista and Attack of the Clones is on TV:

Callista: Harrision, isn't this movie part of your saga?

Ford: Whoa, these movies were made at a different time then the trilogy I did in the late 70's/early 80's. They are not part of my saga!

Callista: This love story is downright awful.

Ford: I always said you can type this shit, but you couldn't say it. I take it back for the prequels, you can't even type this shit now!

They obviously wouldn't suprise such a big star with something like this. But I think Harrison carried it off nicely!

blasphemy, non of those late night shows are staged, they are all 100% unscripted*

*unscripted in this context means totally scripted (and possibly rehearsed)

i think the most they did was mention it to harrison before he arrived, i definitely dont think it was rehearsed

I said possibly rehearsed. I dont think the interviews are rehearsed, but the stand up act the host gives before the show? even if its just the host reading the jokes an hour before the show its totally scripted/practiced.

and there is no way any actor that goes on there doesnt know the topics to be discussed before hand. no one would go on those shows if they risked getting blind sided by random questions. they may not know every specific question but they have a general idea. Ford's response was 'scripted', he's an actor he acts. Im not saying it wasnt funny or good but its definatly not a suprise to either party (host or guest)

All those late night shows are are a bunch of publicity/promotion for a guest and a comedy routine (that is poorly scripted for the most part). the interviews are the best part of the shows, most of the hosts jokes are obvious set ups, and probably 75% of the time the guest's 'performance' outshines the host.

For the record, I thought Harrison Ford's reaction was absolutly classic

I'm pretty surprised that they didn't show a more god awful clip than that. There are some down right painful scenes with Harrison in it and they decided to show a rather harmless peice. I guess they just wanted to mess with Harrison, not piss the man off.

I also wonder if this is a secret stunt to get more people aware of the Holiday special, and to keep from scaring off the fans they show a rather harmless clip so it peaks everyone's curiosity. Some sort of ruse to show that it is obvious that whatever George Lucas touches does NOT turn to gold as some people are so apt to believe.

Ah, my very first viewing of any part of the Holiday Special.

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

That is precisely what I hope the clip achieves. If it were to spark a more widespread interest in the holiday special... well... you never know what would come of that! Maybe it would even cause Lucas to come clean about all of this! Maybe even... a DVD release?

Adam, I'm trying to understand what your opinion is of this 'holiday special' . I've thought for some time that you like it. Do you mean you think it is crap like many others of us do, or that you genuinely like it? The only thing I know for sure is that you want an official release on DVD. Seeing it one time was enough for me. I've seen the cartoon segments in it about 3 or 4 times though total.

skye_solo, yes, I do like it. In fact, it is one of my favorite movies to watch. Now I know that may sound strange, but, believe it or not, there are a VERY small amount of people who enjoy it, myself included. I would KILL for a DVD release! I've seen the thing somewhere around 100 times. No joke. I even wrote a wikipedia article on it. Yeah, there are some strange things about the holiday special, but to me, that's part of its charm.

I guess many of us are considered strange anyway around here. Many people think I'm strange for liking Star Wars to begin with, so I kind of understand what you are saying, Adam.

Well, those who think you are strange for liking Star Wars probably haven't even seen a Star Wars film in the first place.

like the prequels i just find the holiday special tough to sit through, which is why i dont get why it hasnt been released. to me its no more worse or great than the prequels or the ewok movies, but it at least has some nostalgic value attached as well. in fact if i had a choice i would take the holiday special over the pt any day
Author

Yeah, I don't understand why it's not been released either. If Lucas thinks the prequels are so great, the HS should definitely be out there. He's shown he has no idea what taste is.
I can't ever watch it again tho. $hit hurts my eyes. Adam, your sig is too bright.

And the holiday special still has the original cast in it, so I gues that is a plus for you too.

I don't know. I don't think I'll ever understand my fascination/obsession with it. It's just one of those unexplainable things, you know.

no i mean whats the big deal in lucasfilm officially releasing it? i mean it is kitsch which is a good reason for liking it anyways
Author

Yeah, I don't see what the big deal is about it. And after that stunt on Conan, the holiday special is no secret to the mainstream any longer.

so adam when did you become interested in the holiday special?
