Maybe I didn't want to start a new thread. It seemed appropriate here, so I put it here.

A certain amount of discretion should always be observed when talking about bodily functions or the fulfillment of bodily needs.

Take, for example, the need to expel waste. You don't casually bring up in a conversation: "Man, I just took the biggest dump," or "I love taking a piss, it's such a relief." The same goes for the fulfillment of other needs/urges (depending on your perspective) such as masturbation. It's one of those private things that you just keep to yourself. It's not pleasant to talk about, so people don't, and let's face it- the world is not 100% mature. People are often uncomfortable talking about sex, intimacy, what have you. It is partially for the sake of these people that you don't talk about these things, and partially because of cultural conditioning.

You can rage against society and culture all you want, but that won't change what is and will be for a long time. Maybe you're a non-conformist, but in this case, you basically do so to the exclusion of having non-extremist friends and normal relationships if you bring this sort of thing up a lot.

EDIT: For the record, recent statistics state that 96% of males do it. I don't know the female statistics, and I won't hazard a guess.

This post made me want to masturbate on your face.

This has become a terrible thread. Look at yourselves. What are you even talking about? So many posts and so little meaning. Shame on all of you.

Sigh, this is pissing me off how I keep doing this, but I'm going to have to side with Adam on this one. Even though it's something I strongly believe in, I am rather curious if everyone will attack me as strongly as Everescent and company have been attacking Adam, or if this reaction stems from the fact that everyone hates Adam. Now, I'm not going to go running around telling people who don't want to hear about my bodily functions, because I'm fully aware that most people don't want to hear about those sorts of things, and, at the moment, I really don't feel like discussing them anyway. But all the taboos in our societies do greatly annoy me. This is actually a rather recent discovery that I made. I just sort of stepped back and looked at myself and others, and I realized that we do a lot of silly things and have a lot of silly inhibitions for no apparent reason. We're too image conscious, too self-conscious, and embarrassed too easily. Girls feel the need to cover their faces in makeup because they don't think their natural face is attractive enough. The frequency of plastic surgery is on the rise. It's all just so stupid. That's pretty much all I have to say.

And, Everescent: when we "hippies" refer to "the man," we're referring to those in charge of society, not those who are downtrodden. At least get your terms right before you start the verbal bashing. ^_^

And just to prove that these are my own feelings, and I'm just suddenly Adam's protector: Adam, you acted damned stupid for harassing HLF, and I think trying to put Yoda in the original Star Wars movie is one of the dumbest ideas I've heard.

The end.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Re: "The man." I've heard it used both ways. Either that or maybe I misconstrue the meaning when people say "Keep the man down." Are they keeping the big corporate CEOs down? I don't really get that, if that's the case. I always thought it referred to the general populace in that context. If that's not the case, then it's your point.

I'm not really going to attack you, Gaffer, because while I defend the logic behind society's inhibitions, I don't defend the inhibitions themselves. It's like saying "I don't like what you're saying, but I'll fight to the death for your right to say it." There's a connection there, but I'm too lazy to point it out. I'm the first person to say "Merry Christmas," because I hate all the PC "Happy Holidays" bullshit that they're flouting these days. If I want to say "Christ" or "Christmas," I'm going to say it goddamn it. A certain amount of cynicism is present in my posts to Adam, because I think that some of society's inhibitions are silly. But not all.

And of course, as soon as you venture into the realm of the feminine image and all these girls everywhere starving themselves half to death and layering makeup on their faces to try to look like someone out of fashion magazines, only a total doofus (enter Stinky) could really try to disagree with you there. It's a goddamn epidemic (and for those of you who want to argue this point, take a look at the number of cases of anorexia nervosa since the early 1950s. You'll see a trend.)

If you ask me, like Adam, why talking about this stuff makes people uncomfortable or snappish, then I'll give you a whole slew of reasons. If you ask me what I think of this, I'll tell you that it's because people are silly (as I just have). Your "question" (or point, as the case may be) isn't the same as Adam's, and there's nothing I want to refute in your argument.

That's what happened to me as well. When I was about 11 or 12, I suddenly reallized "What a minute, things aren't quite as they seem. The world is completely screwed up." That is the main reason why I have always been quite anti-social - because I understand how a lot of people are, and I see the sillyness of their ways, so I would rather not be around them because of that.

Generally, I accept people for who they are, flaws included. God knows I have mine. As a result, I have a lot of people I'm glad to call my friends. Like PJ.

People are silly, but you know what? They're all you've really got, and they're worth it.

EDIT: I started to continue this train of thought but it will have to wait for another thread. I am just waiting to see if the forums here heal themselves naturally or if a shot of anti-idiotics are needed.

It's just making sure it's near the top, so that people will read it. This often comes in handy if you ask a question and nobody answers. Instead of asking again, you can just bump the thread to the top.
