But, correct me if im wrong, doesnt the symbiot add to his muscularness when he 'puts on' the venom costume? If so, then there is no reason why he cant be decently big and then digitally enhanced as venom (since venom will probably be all (at least most) cg anyway.
now if Topher is supposed to be some other villian, who are the actual villians in this one, has it been officially (or unofficially) announced...i forget, then i guess the above applies less, but i still think its a valid point.

He still doesn't have the intensity or range as an actor to channel the character.
The only thing worse than Topher Grace as Venom is Ashton Kutcher as Venom.
