There is a post in ESB Classic Edition thread where OCPMovie explains how he did it. But he used Ian's dialouge from the DVD, he just re-edited the lines to match the ESB emperor.

In my opinion, Ian did a great job throughout the prequels, even in ROTS. Yes, he was a bit over the top, but not overly so. The worst thing about ROTS, in my opinon, was the lousy make-up job they did for the emperor. Did they even see ROTJ? He didn't look anything like he did in ROTJ. The ROTJ make-up looked good. the ROTS make-up looked like a joke.

But branching from that topic, if Hayden had wanted to, and I already know he was thrilled too, Adam, couldn't he have sued George for using his likeness without his permission in Return of the Jedi?
Probably if his contract didn't include it. Many people don't read the contracts they sign. So, he might be contractually obligated to do even more Star Wars movies(mabye the reason for the change)pure speculation here.

That was never officially confirmed. Only from a "supposed" interview with Hayden.

Read my post here It's at the end. I figured out which scene in ROTS his image is taken from! Yes, it's from the movie proper just an alternate angle!

but in the video interview, he acts like he did.

here's that AOL interview that you say that he knew. He just says that he "got a real kick out of it".

In regards to Ian saying no. I agree that he would have had a CG face then. Just using the original voice.

I was just wondering what George would have done if Ian McDiarmid thought like we do and refused to allow George to reshoot him for Empire Strikes Back. It's funny that George has all the power in the world when it comes to his Star Wars empire, but he would be completely thwarted if Ian had simply said, "No. I don't want to do this." What do you think his reaction would have been? I can almost see him holding his breath and jumping up and down like a toddler until Ian agreed. Or maybe going on an LFL killing spree because he couldn't have his way. Thoughts?

OMG I have images of Isla Fisher in Wedding Crashers in my head now! LOL.

George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

Twister111, I don't see anything. If you are the same person from Tf.n your images are broken.

"because he's nothing but George Lucas' personal "fluff girl"

LOL...I presume you are referring to a "fluffer"? Otherwise, I'm in agreement with you about Ewan and Ian saving the PT.

Attaboy, Twister. Of course, this very same thing was done in Gladiator, but for decidedly different reasons.

Jenny and, Richard: Do to differing settings the last page for me is not the last page for you... That's why I typed "at the end" meaning the last post. So, no link to TFN was ever provided by me... Anyways, if you can't find the last post I'll copy and, paste it here:

The thing about the HC image is that it's just an alternate angle of the end of the "farewell old friend" scene. I totally saw this in the theater and, forgot which scene I saw it in. I thought I was seeing what I wanted to see then I just re-figured it out. I mean look at it the actions are almost completely the same! Hayden looks down happy looks to his right then, has a creepy/semi-mad face a moment later. This also disproves the thought that he knew he was being filmed for it<edit>For it to be inserted into Return of the Jedi I mean.</edit>.
</ctrl+v>

So, I don't know where you two got links to TFN from...

Indeed I am, but I think the term "fluff GIRL" is more appropriate in McCallum's case

Ian not only said no to doing the TESB thing, he also said no to doing Episode 3. He was actually replaced by Rowan Atkinson.
This explains all the ridiculous faces he pulls during the fight scene.

To be honest, now that you mention it, I am seeing some similarities. Someone better with imaging should really find two photos to compare.

Rowan Atkinson is *the* first person I thought of watching that scene.

I actually wanted to do some side-by-side comparison shots for that, but never got round to it... oh well!

The problem is not necessarily that Ian did it, but that he did it poorly .... perhaps due to bad direction from Lucas.

It was possible to edit Ian's lines to match Revill's performance ... but they had to be sped up a huge amount. Someone with professional Lucas equipment could do it better.

If Ian is ever supposed to be in Empire, the scene should be edited to match the original picture, perhaps with only the sound being changed. Lucas didn't do this, he just ruined the scene.

Revill's performance is of course much better ..... Ironically, on the film I'm restoring now, The Thief and the Cobbler, in the "butchered version" Clive Revill wound up revoicing the original actor, Sir Anthony Quayle! So he's been on both sides of that fence. Amusing. I'm using mostly Quayle lines with a couple of Revill ones snuck in.

Completely agree. The whole new scene was pointless and embrassing. They should have kept the original.
