well i agree with you in the respect that you can literally just put in a game and play...
and that is a good thing for many people...

however if you cant set up a game's settings to your preference (no offence intended) you really should not own a computer...

computers have been and always will be a way to cater to your tastes!!
consoles are like it or lump it...
they put what they want in it and then you have to deal with it until they stop producing games for the system...

i was gonna write more on this but i think its really a matter of preference...
i used to be a console junky in the days of the Super NES (best system ever made), but since then have found myself straying away from them, excluding Playstation exclusives, such as Gran Turismo..

but you cant really believe that computer games are losing their audience..

PS - anyone try the demo for Star Wars Empire at War?

for once i find myself excited for a Star Wars game, if your a fan of RTS then check it out!

Definitely have my eye on that one.

Also, Freedom Force vs The Third Reich for the PC is really good.

Not by MY account, it is horrible on the XBox compared to running on even my Radeon 9800 Pro.

Okay, by all accounts I've heard except for one.

My own experience tends to make me prefer the Xbox version, mostly based on the fact that it ACTUALLY RENDERED THE GRASS.

I'm having to write a persuasive essay for English class, and I'm gonna do it on how video games aren't "destroying our nation's youth and all that codswallop. Would anyone be able to help me out/ provide me with facts/ resources?

Well the ratio of violent game sales to murders supposedly caused by them would be a good start, since it's coser to zero than it is to one, I'm sure.

Unfortunately, most NES games were pretty crappy.

But the SNES had some amazing software. *hums the SMW and ALTTP themes*

What about
SMB2
SMB3
Castlevania

Metal Gear
Mega Man Series
Ninja Gaiden
Paperboy
River City Ransom
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and 3
Wario's Woods

SMB2 -Counted as part of SMB series
SMB3 -Same as above
Castlevania -Granted
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! -Already mentioned
Balloon Fight - more of a mini-game than a full fledged game. Who would pay money for it?
Excitebike - Granted
Kung Fu - Never heard of it
Metal Gear - If you say so
Mega Man Series - Granted
Ninja Gaiden -Already said
Paperboy - Okay
River City Ransom - Okay
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 and 3 - Three was alright, but 2?
Wario's Woods - This didn't come out twill well after the SNES did

My point is that even though there were quite a few good games on the system, there was a BUNCH of crap as well, and many games were so friggin hard that even if they were otherwise sound, nobody could beat them. (Battletoads, anyone?)...

True. It just seems like some people go on about how the 'good old days' of gaming were better, when there was just as much crap back then as there is today.

I know that there are many bad games for any system, but there are also games that take a tremendous amount of practice to get good at, otherwise they are frustrating beyond belief. Unfortunately, years later, most people are long since out of practice, and therefore the game now gets a "bad" reputation

I'm of the opinion that even the hardest games should test your skill, not your patience.

I thought that Ninja Gaiden on X-Box was the best effort at marrying Next-Gen graphics and 3D movement with real difficulty akin to the 'good old days'. That and the game was just plain awesome in every respect. I ended up finishing it 3 times, twice with all the scarabs, but cracking those first few levels took a LONG time. I was even frustrated and gave up for probably a month, but once you get out of ancient Japan, the game starts moving along and gets really exciting.

The save points are sufficiently distanced from each other as well - so when you die, there actually is a penalty, there is some part of the game that you have to do all over again upon dying, if you get my meaning.
MTFBWY. Always.
