Wow. And here I thought fans had accepted Kyle as Green Lantern.

Yeah I did did as well. He seemed a decent replacement in keeping witht the other events of the DCU.

But there is one dead hero who has managed to stay dead - Barry Allen, AKA: Flash #2! Not that there was anything wrong with him...

Never say never, friend. I like that he's been kept dead because it honors his sacrifice in COIE which I found to be the most moving scene in that entire series second only to Supergirl's death. But who knows what they'll be doing (have done?) in the new 'Infinite Crisis' series.

Then by that logic its very important that Barry stay dead, otherwise his sacrifice loses all meaning.

I'd hate to turn this into a casting thread, but do you fellows have any ideas on who could play Hal Jordan, Kyle Rayner, Guy Gardner, John Stewart and/or, do I dare suggest it, the original Green Lantern, Alan Scott?

Or the lethal lovely Star Sapphire?

Hmmm... the first person who jumps to mind for Star Sapphire for me would be (a probably younger) Mimi Rogers. I'll have to think about the guys though. And please dare suggest because I at least feel Alan Scott is one of the coolest GLs!

How about Peter Weller as Alan Scott then? Or is he too old?

You know, I might have gone with a younger Harrison Ford as Hal Jordan.

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

OK, Just finished Infinite Crisis #2. I have to say, I'm very, very impressed so far. The art is fantastic...like nothing I've ever seen except for maybe Dark Knight Returns. The paper quality is great (I think that gets overlooked), and the story so far is excellent. I like where they're going with Kal-L and Power Girl. Very cool. Quite glad I read COIE again...

From what I browsed on the racks the other day I was pleased to see the return of what I consider a much better caliber of comic art. I think I mentioned elsewhere that I really think the trend of huge panels with single character poses and no background detail except a wash of computer generated color is well past its time. One of the reasons I stopped enjoying comics as much was the rise of the unskilled, stylized artists. I think this really began with the start of Image Comics- it seemed that other than Jim Lee all the artist/creators thought "Screw those publishers and editors making me drawbackgrounds! I'll do 'convention sketches' and pass them off as sequential art!". Even Jim Lee at the time took to putting in superfluous lines to make his art seem detailed. Eventually he got back to his roots though which is good.

George Perez is someone I long consider to be the pinnacle of comic art. His work is comic-booky yet realistic and detailed. He has a knack for bringing out emotion in character's faces and body language. I'm glad he's a part of the current 'Crisis' and that the others involved seem to be following his lead.

Agreed. I've always considered myself kind of a "minmalist" in many ways, but I want to see detail in my comics (I'm a huge Frank Miller fan, who is utilitarian and detailed at the same time, IMO). The close-ups of the heroes with bodies like tree-trunks is getting old. I'm enjoying Justice, which I think is beautifully done, however IMO they're doing the same thing. Relying on close-ups with little to no background detail. It all seems to stem from a desire to scrunch as many panels on a page as possible. I think Miller and Lee's current All-Star Batman is getting better in terms of art (God knows it's not the story or dialogue), with IC being a huge step forward. I'm also enjoying Perez's covers (picked up all the variants so far).

Do you know if Wolfman is going to be involved with IC at all?

Not sure about the regular series but he is doing this: Infinite Crisis Secret Files 2006

I believe he's also writing the novelization of the 'Superman Returns' film.

Thanks for the link.

I wish more publishers would tap some of that "old" talent. Seems like they're more concerned with signing the "big names" than they are about getting good work. I think Perez and Wolfman would still make darn good comics, as well as others. Did you ever read the "Just Imagine..." books that DC put out by Stan Lee? It was a Lee reimaging of the DC icon characters (Batman, Flash, etc).

No, I had heard about that though, Sage. I think it would be interesting if nothing else.

Anyone reading 7 Soldiers of Victory? Started the Vol 1 TPB last night. Very well done so far...

I enjoyed it too, but I'm kind of miffed they're rebooting Klarion. Not because of any particular affinity for that character, but because I'm sick of all the author's-whim reboots.

So who caught Entertainment Weekly's piece on the new V For Vendetta flick?

I saw it (how could one miss that yummy cover! ) and I continue to loom forward to this film. Only problem is the timing will be bad for me as my wife's due date is March 17th as well. She probably won't mind me missing the birth of our first child to go see a cool looking film though.

On the comics front, this weekend I read the 'Villains United' mini series from DC. Not a bad read but obviously my enjoyment suffered from the usual 'part of a greater story arc' problem when such a big event (Infinite Crisis) is going on. Still it helps my slow coming up to speed with current events in the DCU.

I thought Villains United and OMAC were the two best "Build up" minis. Raan-Thannagar....meh. Don't really care about that one, and Day of Vengence was good, not great. So far Villians and OMAC (with the Superman "Sacrifice" tie-ins) seem to be having the most influence on IC. Holding off on reading IC #4 for a bit while I catch up on some other stuff, like 7 Soliders and Essential X-Men (Vol1).

I've hopefully got OMAC on the way and should be picking up 'Sacrifice' either in individual issues or the TPB soon as well.

Return of Donna Troy also seems to have some bearing, although I haven't read it yet.

So it appears there are about, oh, a bazillion 'Seven Soldiers of Victory' specials, mini-series, TPBs, etc. What is the deal with these? I get the concept of what Ennis is doing but where does one start?
Author
Time
2 book-end specials, 7 four-part minis. Collected in 4 TPBs, 1st is already out, next three over three months.

Ennis?

It's not Ennis. Morrison is the madman behind the new Seven Soldiers.

Which raises the question: Are Subway Pirates stupid weird or surrealy brilliant?

Damn really? They had jumped at least $1 per book since '98 when I last 'collected' and read. What are they going to now?

Also, this upcoming '52' weekly series sounds interesting. Any thoughts?

As I understand it, the "post-IC" DCU was going to "skip" ahead a year. It was being called DCU - 1 Year Later. However it was decided this was not the way to go in the absence of some type of bridging event...hence 52. At the end of it they will be where they wanted to be at the end of IC. I understand it will be $2.50. I've already added it to my pull-list. They get much more expensive and I will have to consider direct-mail subscriptions.

This is correct. Apparently at the end of Infinite Crisis 5, Superman Batman and Wonder Woman all leave for a year and 52 tells of how the DCU gets along without them. They apprently come back in the final issue of Infinite Crisis, judging by the cover:

Hmmm... I've admired his work for years now but never really read or heard much about him personally. I kinda imagined him as a bit of a recluse for some reason.

Now, though it goes without saying generally, Todd McFarlane IS a dick... it takes about 10 seconds of talking with him in person to figure that out!
