I actually prefer the DVDs and can't wait for more edits, seriously. — Page 2

I can kinda see where marioxb is coming from here, and in a lot of ways, I agree with what he has to say. I like the new versions of the films and am highly entertained by them, even with the changes. But to a lot of people, the changes (whether they feel they are good, or bad) would not matter in the least if we all had a choice as to which version we wanted to watch through official means. Sure, there are people here who are disgusted by the changes and by the prequels (I am not one of these people), but I think for the most part, all we really care about is being able to have a choice in the matter. We chose to cling to Star Wars when it was originally released in the first place by giving our hard-earned money to see it and to buying the toys and whatnot....and we are pretty much all willing to go wherever Lucas goes with his changes by buying the newest versions when they are released....But the money we have put out on Star Wars over all these years is money which has allowed Lucas to make these changes. Why is it so much to ask for the original films...the way we remember them?

Yeah, I want the OOT versions on DVD, and you know what? The versions that are out now (unofficial) are good enough. Except it means that a LOT of people won't be smart enough to find a way to watch them on DVDs (you know, those people that don't know how to work a DVD-R or order from ebay, AKA Joe Six-Pack). If I want to watch movies of inferior quality, then I will watch the OOT, just to see how far we have come from back then. They are fine just the way they are. No need to upgrade the picture quality or special effects for the original versions. If I want to see higher quality versions (and matching the cool prequels better to boot) then I will watch the DVD versions. I would almost settle for VHS being the media of choice for the IMO inferior by today's standards, but still good, OOT. Except for the fact that I like the option of scene selection, bonus features and isolated score, plus I don't wanna wear out the tapes. That's it. The quality of the original versions is good enough. For the improved quality/ better effects/ prequel tie-ins/ that is reserved for the updated 2004-2007 versions.

I think that everyone that REALLY REALLY REALLY wants the OOT on DVD already has them, and that should be good enough. It is for me.

Being that you consider the originals to be "inferior" versions of the film, your opinion of what "should be good enough" for fans desiring a legit remastered official DVD release of the O-OT is completely irrelevant.

You sure are enthusiastic about the changes Lucas keeps making to the trilogy for someone who professes to not even notice 99% of them.

mario in '77: "Hell yeah! Did you just see that? Han just smoked Greedo before Greedo even knew what was coming! Then he flips a coin to the bartender and walks away like a badass! Great scene!"

mario in '97: "Yes!! Greedo shot and missed Han from point blank range, and only then did Han shoot back! Clearly, this is THE way this scene was meant to be shot. Brilliant!"

mario in '05: "Awesome! Greedo and Han shot each other simultaneously, and Greedo missed while Han's shot found it's target! Can you imagine this scene playing out any better? I sure as hell couldn't! Fantastic stuff! This is how it was always meant to go down!" <High-fives friend>

mario in '07: "Dude, did you see where Han beat Greedo in rock-paper-scissors in the cantina? So perfect! Looking back, I can't imagine that scene any other way. Just standard Lucas genius, baby!"

One of the few times where I will actually agree with Kev.

Wow. Here we have someone who likes Lucas' changes more than even I do. NEVER have I said that like 100% of the changes. I don't like some things, like Greddo shooting firs/at the same time, or Ian's bad acting compared to Clive in ESB.

Just have to say... that was really, really funny.

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Amen MarioxB, I love the PT almost as much as the OT. ROTS is a masterpiece and well deserving of the SW name. ROTS is only surpassed by ANH. I will not buy into all this hatred of the PT and GL. I want the OOT on DVD as badly as anyone but I'm not going to bash the man because he hasn't done it yet. He's a freakin genius and does not derserve the disrespect he gets on this site.

By the way, in case you or anyone else here does not already know it, you can get the SW holiday special on e-bay for about $5.00. I just got a sweet VHS copy of the original ANH for $2.50 and the quality is fantastic.

The changes like the Emperor dialoge, Greedo, makes no difference one way or the other to me.

Or you can ask pretty much anyone on this site and they will send you one for free. The whole point of this site is to stop eBay from selling the DVDs in the first place, as the majority of them are made by people on the site in the first place. So please, don't contribute to the Dark Side Dealers (a.k.a. eBay), just ask Rikter.

Thanks for the info, I knew the Holiday specials were bootlegged but I didn't realize there were other avenues to get them. (I still give bootlegged copies of Space Above and Beyond to friends as well).

I know this is off topic but has anyone seen this Geordie version of SW they sell on e-bay. I didn't buy it, I was just wondering what the hell it was.

Er--yeah I knew this but why pay for it when a friend can give it to you for free.

So that you're not a pirate.

Nope, no pirating. The risk is never worth the payoff in that business.

Hmm? Isn't that what piracy is, when you receive a bootleg of something that is commercially available?

Honestly I don't know all the piracy laws but IMO its no different than making a copy of a music CD for a friend or a giving copy of SW Holiday special. Its all piracy in someones eyes I'm sure.

I wasn't judging one way or another- I honestly didn't know if you were aware that it came out. I've had several preservation sets of TV shows that I later found out came out in an official release. There's so many releases its hard (for me at least) to catch them all.

Well, I know that, even among the "underground" community, receiving bootlegs of commercially available products is frowned upon, yet receiving bootlegs of those that are not commercially available is fine.

No worries Greencapt, I had heard the SAAB was out on DVD recently but to be honest with you I have an excellent copy of all the episodes that I bought off e-bay about 4 years ago and that is what I had shared so I have never seen the release you are talking about. Its a great series and they did the same thing to it that they did to Firefly....it's just an all around shame.
