I at least am not asking for a JUSTIFICATION at all. What I'm curious about is the reasoning and thought process of a filmmaker. Its a field I have great interest in and as someone who has edited a work or two I'm fascinated by the decisions that are made from earliest script to the 'final' edit. I've heard many wonderful commentaries from directors who will be happy to say 'by doing this I make the audience feel this way' or some such. That's how we learn, or at least that's how I learn. And that was the point of this thread or at least I had hoped.

And trust me- I've bought some stinker films to hear HOW they were made.

Also I think you'll find most here are OVERLY aware of how many this have been changed over the years- probably more than many film scholars at least when it comes to the films of George Lucas.
