'The Monster Squad' widescreen preservation? (Released)

Hey guys,

Been lurking around the board for some time now thought I would finally make myself known, so hello all.

I was just wondering if anyone had thought of doing The Monster Squad?

This is a film I loved as a kid, as im sure many of you did to,

The film is in limbo land with no sign of a release any time soon, I was thinking with the help of you guys of putting together a fan DVD crammed with as much bonus material that could be found.

I know the bootlegs are widely available for quite some time, but from what I understand there taken usually from the US laser disc and are 4:3. I have the very rare Japanese wide screen laserdisc (even though I don’t even have a LD player) that could be used, scans of a few pictures and a couple of mp3’s of the soundtrack that could be used, but hopefully if you guys were willing to contribute maybe we could put something a little more extensive together.

A trust worthy member would need to do the capture and authoring, im sure there someone out there.

Any ideas, any contributors? would do you guys think.

Thanks.

First, Welcome to the forum!!

Second, this is a great idea! I've had a very hard time tracking down a copy of the widescreen version. We have some heavy talent here and I bet you'll find someone that'll do the film right!!

I would give it a shot, does the movie have Japanese text on it like the Special Collection set?I am in the middle of redoing that set and taking out the subtitles.

There is Japanese text, but from what I understand it's within the screen black matte, would you be able to do something with that?

If anyone has any posters, pictures, interviews anything monster squad related, all contributions would be appreciated.

I JUST bought the widescreen version off of ebay....BUT...

I would be very interested in doing a dual-layer version from your laserdisc if you would let me.

I'd also be able to get rid of the Japanese text. Please message me and let me know.

By the way, does anyone know who owns the domestic rights to this film? It'd be great if an official release were available but alas we'll just have to wait.

I don't know if anyone knows. I think we're all waiting to hear who has the real rights.

btw...i got a copy of the widescreen version off of ebay...but I'd much rather make my own version from Castor's...if he would ever answer.

Wasn't this shown in the last year on one of the HD channels, just like Blade Runner? <hint, hint>

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

You're right, it wasn't the last year. It was shown on Voom in HD in October 2004. This site says it was 1.85:1 but I can't confirm that. I think a buddy of mine watched it, so I'll have to see if he remembers.

digitalfreaknyc sorry for the delay in responding, my misses just had our second kid so my time as been quite occupied. Anyhow, good news is a have a dvdr of this with a menu including the trailer, unfortunalty the feature is the not the best quality as the laserdisc transfer itself was a quite poor, drop me a pm if you would like a copy.

Cheers.
