I happened across this while browsing today:
Conan: Red Nails animated direct to DVD feature film

http://www.sneakpeektv.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/conredposter.gif

Looks kinda cool IMHO. I'm a Conan fan (books, comics, movies- in that order) and hadn't heard about this one. I think its time for the sword and sorcery genre to return for awhile anyhow!

Anyone heard anything about this?

That does look cool. And I'm still trying to read through all the stories of my Conan collection of Robert E. Howard's originals.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

What I'd really like to see is just *one* animated film come out in the U.S. geared toward more mature audiences that has GOOD animation! There've been several films but I'm always left scratching my head wondering why U.S. studios take the time to animate kids films well but when aiming for an older audience the animation tends to look like crap (ie sloppy work, bad perspective, etc).

Ron Pearlman and Mark Hamil in the same film...

DEATHSTROKE and THE JOKER?

My thoughts: OH, HECK YES!

As long as the animation isn't crap, count me in.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

That statement reminds me of the Ralph Bakshi films I've seen... the guy wanted to make films that were for mature, adult audiences, but his animation was crappy & disjointed as Hell.

Not to mention a bit creepy.

I enjoyed Wizards, and LOTR was passable, but Heavy Traffic, Fritz the Cat and Hey Good Lookin' were CRAP. There's a bunch more I haven't seen and have no desire to see.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

AWESOME!!!

I love Conan! The new Dark Horse comic series is bloody fantastic and its great to see my favourite cimmerian back in the spotlight again, first with the comic, then the mcfarlane toys and now this. I only hope it lives up to the high standards re-established--but with the likes of Ron Perlman, how can you go wrong??

My only hope is that its not kiddie--Conan was a dark, bloody and violent series and i pray to crom that this is geared towards an R rating. I dont know how likely this is. But i suppose we can live with a PG-13 conan if we have to (though the last time they tried that in 1984 the results were not good).

Ron Perlman, star of the Hellboy franchise, Marg Helgenberger of CSI, and James Marsden (Cyclops in the X-Men films) will voice the major roles in the first feature-length animated Conan film, Conan: Red Nails. The legendary W. Michael Kaluta is the new movie's key concept designer, with Mark Schultz (Cadillacs & Dinosaurs) adding additional designs for the 2D/3D film, which Victor Dal Chele (Spider-Man, The New Adventures of Johnny Quest) will direct from a screenplay by Steve Gold and Timothy Dolan. New Line Home Entertainment has acquired all North American distribution rights and plans to release Conan: Red Nails on DVD sometime in 2006.

The Conan: Red Nails animated feature is about to move from the "design and production" phase to principal animation. The film will precede a major new live-action Conan feature from Warner Bros. (see "Conan Movie Back on Track"). The return of Robert E. Howard's sword-wielding Cimmerian to the big screen can only be good news for retailers given the number of Conan licensees, which includes, to name a few of the most prominent, Dark Horse Comics, McFarlane Toys, Ballantine/Del Rey, Comic Images (CCG), and Mongoose Publishing (RPG).

Wow, this really is incredible. I had no idea Conan was coming back with such force. I am weary of any live-action film starring Tripple H though--i mean Arnold and Milius did a damn fine job so you never know, and the fact that they are sourcing the original REH novels is certainly good. I just dont want to get my hopes too high.

(personally, at this point, unless the live action film has a huge ass budget, which i severely doubt, i predict the animated film will probably be the stronger).

Just goes to show that you can't keep a good Cimmerian/Barbarian down!

Funny thing: the He-Man & The Masters of the Universe toyline was originally meant to be a Conan toyline, but Mattel apparently didn't like sponsoring such a violent character so they reworked it to suit their needs. Or at least that's what the legend says.

To say the least.

Think we'll get lucky and see something like this?

An animated feature based on this story, Conan: Red Nails, is currently in production. Actor Ron Perlman will provide the voice of Conan. Tolkemec is voiced by Mark Hamill in this version. However, there have been no updates to the film's website [19] since December 2007. IMDB currently lists the film for release in 2010.

How does this happen? Does somebody get enough capital to record dialogue and open a website, then just hope they get more money?

I hadn't realized how many YEARS it's been since I first heard about this movie being 'made.'

Pity.

I doubt they even recorded any dialogue. I did not like the animation style they were using anyway so I'm not disappointed that this has been (presumably) cancelled.

The only way to make Conan properly would be to use the same guys who made the Ninja Scroll anime, or get Milius back to make a live action HBO series (even if Milius kept his alternate universe Conan as seen in the 1982 movie).
