How long has that been up? Probably awhile I would think.

Well, it was just found.

Yeah, I saw that digitalbits today reported that it is in the works (officially). However, no way am I holding my breath on THAT one.

quoted from www.thedigitalbits.com:

And finally, here's a bit of news that's going to get a lot of you excited (and I made a point to specifically ask about this title, believe me)... Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982) is currently on track for release as a multi-disc special edition in time for its 25th anniversary in 2007. The release is far from certain (as usual, there's a lot more that I can't post about this title yet - think of the old saying, "Loose lips sink ships"), but Warner says that work is proceeding, most of the key players are involved and things are "looking good" for release next year. We'll see.

"The release is far from certain"

No kidding. This "Uber-release" has been talked about for the past five years, at least.

<span class=“Bold”>JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
<span class=“Bold”>Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.</span></span>

<span class=“Italics”>JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.</span>

I like the way you did the logo for the cover of the 2nd one, it suits/blends with the color scheme of the poster really well.

I know this may be overkill but I'm currently making a new version of JUST Blade Runner.

I got a new version of HDTV2DVD from the creator and it allows you to have a much higher bitrate and it will fill up a complete DL DVD.

If anyone is interested, let me know.

Would it be worth your time and effort to include the 2.0 track from the current DVD? I think playing that through Pro-Logic II would probably send better than the 5.1. Or better yet, if you want to make the ultimate Blade Runner disc, just use the PCM track from the LD, uncompressed!

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Not overkill at all, I think that would be great. One comment though, since you're going to do that, would it not also make senSe to have the logo removed from the print of the film? Otherwise I don't think most people would split hairs over the quality when compared.

I'm not releasing it. I'm just doing it for me. If someone out there wanted copies, I could send it over 2 DVD-R discs but after this, I'm done with Blade Runner.

There won't be any room for any other soundtracks beyond what's going to be on there. And to be honest, from what I heard I had no problem with it.

If someone sent me the "new" scenes without the logo, I'd be fine with inserting them. If no one is working on it, I honestly don't care enough. I wasn't one of the ones complaining.

Fair enough, and again the print that you have released and taken the time to put together is great. So thank you very much, again.

This DVD is fucking awesome.

The logo appearance is brief and doesn't bother me at all. Until this worms its way onto HDDVD and Blu Ray this is the best it's going to get (I don't hold out much hope for the supposed "2007 DVD release," they've been saying that same shit for years,) and I'm glad there's something better than the official release on this format.

I'd be interested in a bare bones highrer bit-rate version, so count me in. Has he released
the new version of the software to the public yet?

Not that I know of.

Actually I did another version last night and although the bitrate is higher and it took up a bit more space, it fell short of what the resulting file would be. It turned out to be 6.8g and I was told that i would be almost 8 when I did it initially. I'm waiting to hear back from him on the discrepancy.

So I finally downloaded it, but when I try to burn it, Toast is telling me I need to use compression to fit disc 1 on one disc. Removing the extras and leaving only the main feature lets me burn the disc without any compression. Any idea why this is so?

Sorry, DVD burning n00b. I never bothered because my Power Mac had a single layer burner, but I just downloaded new firmware that enables dual layer capability.

Nevermind. Apparently, Toast is too dumb to automatically change its burn time and empty space estimates based on the media in the drive. I had to manually switch it to dual layer.

I didn't have time to watch the whole movie yet, but I did do a quick comparison between the retail DVD and digitalfreaknyc's DVD. Huge difference. So much more detail and none of the ringing or graininess present on the retail release. The color temperature is very different, but after viewing both, I'm inclined to say the retail release is far too hot. Flesh tones look sunburned and fire is oversaturated. The color temp of the HD version (and digitalfreaknyc's DVD) is probably closer to correct.

I'd kill to have a 1080p version in WMV or QuickTime format.
