DigitalFreakNYC, if I remember correctly, Ash595 did a cover for "The Making of Superman 3" maybe he can supply you with that? Or a variation of it.

What about some covers and disk art for your Making of Superman collection, or is there any?

As I stated on myspleen, i only have a scan of the one that was made for me several years ago. No one else has made any so please feel free. I have none for the making of 3.

Also, if anyone would like to help me out with the Jaws releases, those will be next.

what do you think of these covers ?

Ash, I can get it for you when i get home. I actually didn't make those inserts. Babyhum did.

No preference on the font. I can tell you that I used "Impact" on the menus.

I'm definitely interested. I'll probably only need 2 of them. I'd really like to use the Jaws cover that was created by E! but I'll need someone to change the back. Ash, would you be interested?

Should I email you a hi rez version of the cover?

sure, I can try.

Don't know if anyone is interested, or if this is even helpful...BUT!

Jaws is my all time favourite film, and I couldn't help but whip this up - are there any fan edits out there that this might be applicable to?

I was just checking out the Blade Runner disc. This looks much better than the DVD I bought in 1997. It's a smooth, glossy picture and the wires on the spinner in the beginnning were as clear as ever.

The sound is a mess though. I don't blame you Craig, but it sounds like the HDNet broadcast just did an on the fly re-purposing of a stereo track. There's dialogue leakage in the surrounds that you'd never hear in a true 5.1 mix. The opening titles also sound really weird, with a phasey effect going on in the surrounds. Also there is a ton of hiss on this. Once the movie starts it's tolerable, but I'm sure this movie can sound much better. Again, this isn't a knock against you, and I thank you for making this available.

I'm not sure if this is an authoring mistake, but my DVD burning program (Toast) says this is a 2.0 track. When I played it in my Pioneer DVD player, the on screen display said it was a 2.0 track as well. When I played it in my main home theater though, it was clearly coming from all 5 channels and my Zenith DVD player said it was 5.1. Weird.

For those that don't have dual layer burners, I discovered that the movie itself can fit on a single layer DVD without any further compression. You'll lose the menus and the trailers and the interviews, but the movie proper will still look gorgoeus.

Neil

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

Neil,

It shouldn't. The movie files themselves add up to more than a single layer DVD.

Cassidy, where can I get that nice jaws cover?

Nothing about fanediting is easy.

Well, it's a work in progress - I'll finish it up if interest is there. My goal is to keep the front the way it is (I'm starting to love hi-res minimalism) then add the necessary info to the back.

Again, if there are any fan edits or projects out there that this cover could be used for, that'd be awesome.

And Boon - if you want me to finish it up and send it to you as a replacement for the studio Jaws cover, let me know...

But I'd really like the cover to be attached to a Jaws project, again, if there's any out there!

Cassidy, the Jaws cover looks really good. But there are one or two things to address. First, Richard Dreyfuss's name is misspelled on the back. The "y" isn't there. Secondly, and this is just a matter of personal preference, but I'd put the title on the spine. Without it, you have to remember that the blue&white on the shelf is Jaws. Maybe you did it intentionally to go along with the blank-spined 2-disc E.T.?

EDIT: D'oh! Now I see it's a WIP.

Thanks for the pointers Enzo - yeah, it's a WIP but suggestions are always welcomed.

Cassidy,

I have a few Jaws projects I'm working on. Maybe you can do 1 cover and Ash can do the other?

Do you have any rare stuff that I can use to torrent?

Author
Time
Thanks man! PM me details of what you'd like in a cover and I'm up to the challenge.

As for rare stuff, lamentably I own the original and 30th Ann editions of JAWS, but I do have an interesting book by Nigel Andrews (Bloomsbury Movie Guide No. 5) which has essays, storyboards etc...

That's probably not that useful, unless someone were to scan it all as part of a DVD-ROM content...

Here are screenshots I made from Toast.

The above photo shows what it would say if I burnt the entire contents of Disc 1 on a single layer disc.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/Indysolo/ToastTitaniumScreenSnapz001.jpg

This next photo shows that to fit all of the material from that a 43% reduction in quality would be needed to put the movie and all of the bonus features from disc one on a single layer disc.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v293/Indysolo/ToastTitaniumScreenSnapz002.jpg

However, this last photo shows that if I just burn the main movie, no compression is required, ergo it is "Identical to Original".

All that being said, you are right. I just checked some of the scenes (my DVD player has a bit rate meter) and the scenes on the dual layer disc were running about twice as high as the single layer disc. I can't explain this one.

My sincerest and humblest apologies.

Neil

See? I know how to get my shit right.

As far as the 2.0/5.1 differences, all i know is that it was 5.1 when I put it into DVD-Lab and it shows up as such when I play it. I don't know why some places are reading it as 2.0.

TheCassidy:
I am slowly working on 2 Jaws projectsm, but they regard they hated Jaws 3 & 4. I was wondering if you could make some similar covers to the one you're WIPing, but using the Jaws 3 and Jaws 4 art. I have the art in fairly hi-res, would love for you to have a go, PM me if you'd like to.
