Greetings fellow OTers,

I am looking for the 50th annual Oscar (1977), I guess it might have aired in 1978, it was the oscar night that Star Wars won 6 oscars. If someone has copy, please pm me or send me an e-mail to masterdubber@yahoo.ca.

That would be awesome.

Thanks in advance.

There was a video (and Laserdisc) called "Oscar's Greatest Moments" released in the mid 90's. There's a chance it might have something from the '77 ceremony in it.

As a matter of fact, I had that tape, but it did not show Star Wars much, it showing the best actors, best actresses and best movies, and there was not much of Star Wars in it , but thanks for suggesting, I appreciate it.

I too am interested in entire broadcasts of Oscar shows from the 70's and 80's. If anyone out there has any info please PM me.

Too bad the video doesn't have much then. I was contemplating getting a copy. There would probably be major rights hassles releasing complete award shows from past years. However, I think it might be possible to visit the Museum of Television and Radio in New York or Los Angeles and watch them.

Ooo, off topic, but if there's a place to get the 1977 Oscars, they've got to have 1968 too, right? I've never seen Stanley Kubrick's acceptance speech for 2001.

2001 wasn't even nominated for best picture. It only earned best special effects. So, I don't think there was a Kubrick's acceptance speech at all.

That totaly sucks though, cause they let the 3 year old kids with computers and an ants-in-the-pants ideal of what a film should look like that did the special fx for Star Wars Episode 1 give an acceptance speech, why not the STAN-MAN!?

Okay off topic. Yeah I'd like to see the original Star Wars oscar sweep--maybe the Academy has them all on record and we could just politely ask to "borrow" a copy? For educational purposes of course...I mean--it's surprising what you can get when go right to the source.

Kubrick was listed in the credits of 2001 as director and supervisor of visual effects, so he certainly could have gone up on stage. But I somehow doubt he attended the ceremony...
On a side note, I think I recorded the segment from the Oscars where Lucas got the honorary award from his pal Steven with a little help from the astronauts orbiting in the shuttle that night, who had a little gold passenger floating in the cabin.

I have the one with the astronaut and the special award as well, but the 1977 Oscar Ceremony is my coveted prize at the moment.
