I love the HS, just cause it really shows what could have been Star Wars (ANH) without the talent of Lucas (at that time)...

No. Without Lucas, it would have been purely that cheesy Flash Gordon-esque sci-fi.

well at the time lucas wasnt interested in tv

But that still would have probably been how ANH would have turned out without his involvement.

I remember the first time watching the Holiday Special and thinking, "it's almost over." after about 20 minutes. Then it went past 30 minutes, and I thought, "Oh it must have been an hour special." then it went past an hour. That's when it dawned on me that a network actually devoted 2 hours for this.

This to me went way beyond bad to just plain evil. It should be used for torturing prisoners to make them talk.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

2 hours does seem excessive now that i think of it. a half hour wouldve been perfect

Indeed. Really, I don't think it would have had such a bad reaction from people and would be more well-liked if it would have cut out all of the guest star stuff. If it would have just focused on the struggle of Chewbacca to get home, and Chewie's family, I think people would have liked it more.

Just the sound would suffice for torturing...

Hey guys, maybe you could get Lucas to release the OOT on DVD if you could somehow sneak into Skywalker Ranch one night while he was asleep. Strap him down into a chair, and force him to watch the holiday special 24 times in a row.

This sounds like a job for... MANGLER BROS., INC. !

That sounds like what you did last night! J/K. I just watched the fucking thing last week, and good God, it's as bad as I remember it. When I was a kid and watched the original airing, it was a big deal. Now, it's like...I guess taste is something that develops with age.

It's so sad that it sucked so bad.

Now the 1980 "Muppet Show" episode where Mark Hamill guest stars, that was a good variety show TV. Sure it was corny, but that was a good fun-time corny. I had no problem watching Mark try to gargle-sing with that scotish muppet creature. Even back then you could tell he was a great cartoon voice guy when he was impersonating Kermet and Fonzie. Good times, good times.

Yeah, this episode was great! I particulary love the idea of having Mark Hamill AND Luke Skywalker in the show, it's completely crazy... but it's Muppets!

So, I suppose it's canon that Luke's cousin is Mark Hamill. That must mean that Owen and Beru had a secret child named Mark Hamill, who looked remarkably like Luke.
