What you're reading now: EU style — Page 4

I'm supposed to start reading the New Jedi Order books, but don't know if I can start another EU relationship again after the disastrous K J Anderson books of the 90s. I wish I could read these things, but it causes me real emotional turmoil. I thought the novelization of ROTS was so boring it took me the better part of a year to read it. That's right, I finished it last week, and I purchased it when it came out in April. I blame it on the boring characters of the prequels. I think the author did the best he could considering the material.
I remember thinking Splinter of the Mind's Eye was fun to read back in the early 90s. Hearing some of the reactions to it here make me actually think about digging it out to read again.

You...thought...the ROTS novel... was boring?!? Wow.

Matthew Stover, IMHO, is THE best writer of Star Wars, period. He adds a depth to things in a way that no one else has been able to do with SW.

Sorry, I did think it was boring. That's why I fear there may be no hope for me and the Star Wars Eu!

You thought what was boring? I'm sure there are some parts of the EU that you can enjoy.

Sorry Adam, I was referring to the ROTS novel. I don't think Matthew Stover is a bad author at all. I gave it a shot, but I couldn't get into it.

As I suppose the comics count as EU I'll post this here.

I just read 'Star Wars: Purge' and... *hated* it! **possible spoilers below**

The art was great but the story further makes Anakin/Darth look like the clown-shoes that Lucas has made him into. For those who haven't read it, it takes places almost immediately after ROTS and covers what I suppose is one of the first forays Darth has into exterminating Jedi. I suppose the positive is that the author truely captures the PT portrayal of Anakin in the person of Darth- he's whiny, weak and snivels before the Emperor. The worst part I found was that the events of the comic are supposed to be the foundations of Vader's bad-ass reputation based on a false rumor spread about Vader's battle with the Jedi. The Emperor tells whiny Vader how great this'll be for his 'street cred' even though Vader basically whines 'But its not true..."

**greencapt pulls out his own hair** To quote one of the 'great' lines of Vader dialogue from this comic- "Arrrgggaauugghhh!!"

First of all, let me just say that I am a HUGE fan of the EU. With a few exceptions (the Callista Trilogy novels) I find that the novels are better than the Prequals. I also think that the comics are brilliant as well.

As to what I'm reading...

I just finished The Swarm War (book 3 of The Dark Nest Trilogy), and thought it was great. I also enjoyed Dark Lord: The Rise Of Vader

I won't bash anything here (except the SE & the PT - LOL).

I guess you could call me an EU devotee. They just feel like SW to me.

Once again, just my 2 cents
"...all Jedi Had was a bunch of muppets." - Dante Hicks (Clerks)

Anakin was an OLD MAN when he died, therefore his ghost should be old too AND WITH EYEBROWS

i find my heart lies with this one on this issue.

yeah the EU is very good, the NJO series was by far the most starwars feelin set i have read yet. as one critic said, "the war in the NJO, put the WAR back in Star wars"

So, who's got a chance to read Outbound Flight yet? If so, what did you think of it?
