Well, think about it this way.

I bet they figured that Kirsten would've stayed the whole run of the series, so have her be the hero's girl for all of it instead of getting a Gwen for 1-2 movies then getting an MJ (and a convoluted storyline on top of it, I'm sure). However, since MJ is punching out after this one, they'll reverse the roles. Have MJ die or disappear with Gwen as the new girl of Spidey.

Makes perfect Hollywood sense. (Not that I agree with it)

True, but Raimi's no Joel Schumacher.

THE MAN SPEAKS THE TRUSH, HSvsIJ.

That's still not a guarantee. That's like saying Superman Returns will win 15 Oscars and become the biggest box office money maker of all time (beating that god awful Titanic) just because Bryan Singer's directing it.

Speaking of Joel Schumacher, has anyone ever bothered watching his non-Batman films? Like Flatliners, The Client and A Time To Kill? I actually watched The Phantom of the Opera a few nights ago and thought it was decent if not exactly an Oscar winner.

Which reminds me.... before Schumacher got the job of directing Batman Forever, Sam Raimi lobbied for the job, but Warner Brothers rejected him because at the time he was only a "cult" director.

Can you imagine Batman Forever in the Raimi style?

Yes he did.

Yes. It would have been a better film. Schumacher is a competent director, but he lacks visual flair and style, and usually has to rely on his design staff to bring this to the production. With films like Falling Down, The Lost Boys and even The Phantom of the Opera, that's OK, but comic book films, to a certain extent, rely on the director having a vision beyond putting nipples on the Batsuit and actually understanding the roots of the comic book. Richard Donner's Superman worked because of Donner's commitment to verisimilitude. Batman and Batman Returns work because of Burton's commitment to bringing out the earlier, darker tones of the Batman comics. The Spider-Man films have worked so far because Sam Raimi's innate visual style resembles a comic book. Ang Lee tried to impose a comic-book style on The Hulk and was unsuccessful, because he's a director who generally works better with intimate human drama. Daredevil was a bloody mess because Mark Steven Johnson didn't "get" the character. The X-Man films so far work because Bryan Singer not only has great visual style; he made the effort to understand the comic before getting into the director's chair.

I'm prepared to push the History Eraser Button just so I don't have to think about Catwoman.

Keeping in mind that Warner Brothers also wanted to take the third Batman film in a different direction after the critical flack that Batman Returns suffered.

Schumaker needs to get back to his roots. I'm hoping for a sequel to D.C. Cab myself.

Meanwhile, killing off MJ would disservice the story. I kid about wanting that a lot because of my disdain for Kirsten Dunst ... or what she's become since the success of Spidey 1. All I have to say is she'd better show up with her game face on this time because she was the lone sour note in the otherwise pitch-perfect Spidey 2. And I'm not the only one who noticed.

Whenever any actor or actress gets too big for their britches, the Great Unwashed LOVES to see them get taken back down. Affleck. Halle Berry. Tom Cruise. Val Kilmer. All of these guys got their ego confused with their paycheck at some point. Kirsten's been teetering on that cliff herself.
I am fluent in over six million forms of procrastination.

But Val Kilmer has almost completely disappeared from the radar, while Affleck, Berry and Cruise most of all are still reigning. Too bad, because I always enjoyed Kilmer's performancese more than theirs. I'm almost tempted to pop the question of Cruise VS Kilmer or Affleck VS Kilmer in a fist fight, but to what avail I do not know.

My memory has gone to shit now though, so I can't actually remember all the films I've seen in the last few years.
What was it about again?
