Ah, I knew I had already answered that, but it was in a different thread. Sorry for the delay. The cover for WOTW TEC was made by our member Castor & Troy as are all our "official" CBB covers. We all think she is definetly getting better with every cover art she creates. It took her about 30 hours until that one was composed like it is now (at least this is what she said).

I HAVE TO SAY THAT I THINK THAT WAS HER BEST COVER TO DATE.

RIKTER, DAMN NICE HOLLOWEEN SET.

Already posted this on another thread but I thought I should present them here. These are my covers for digitalfreaknyc's recent 2 disc release of Blade runner.

I prefer the first.

Although the second isn't bad, but I forgot to add a barcode.

COOL B.R. COVERS!!!!!!!

PLEASE - NO BAR CODES!

I really feel that the barcodes and FBI warnings make the covers look like cheap asian bootlegs.

OH YEAH - Deckard works for the LAPD not the LPD

Thank you.

I don't agree, I think the artwork either works or it doesn't. The only thing that makes an asian bootleg look like an asian bootleg is bad artwork and bad placement. Granted these discs are not for sale, but professional cover art should always leave room for the barcode. Doesn't mean that you can't make the barcode itself work within the design.

I have to go with Rikter on this one. The covers look good but the barcode does make it look like an asian bootleg.

Okay, I agree that "professional cover art" should have a barcode as it also acts as a UCP barcode for retailers to scan when an individual goes to a store to buy an item, this DVD is not going out to retails so why provide an inaccurate barcode

BUT...

This is a fan created DVD, so why try to fake it or make it look like retail DVD?
You see when that is done it leaves the impression that you're trying to "fool" someone into thinking it's REAL official retail DVD, that is why most custom DVD covers for FAN created DVD’s do not have UCP Barcodes. AND that is what makes it look like a bad Asian bootleg.

It's not the art work that makes a DVD cover look bad, its bad design supervisors and a real lack of interest in the production of the DVD that makes some covers bad. Yes, there are a TON of custom covers that are made to replace either badly designed or lackluster existing covers; and including a barcode on a replacement cover is very acceptable as it is the same DVD that the barcode is associated with.

All these covers look pretty cool (all the covers featured in this thread) and I look forward to more of EVERYONES future works!!!

I'm sorry but I think that's nonsense, or at the very least hyperbolic. Film posters, dvd covers, etc, etc, are graphic art, are ads first, fan created or no, commercial art. The dvd covers made by most fans here are created with promotional photographs, film posters , fonts, logos, etc, a barcode is simply a futherence to that, a preference.

If a dvd design I do is either for a professional job I've worked on or for a fan release that's done in my spare time, I'm still going to have it look professional, barcode included. And lastly, adding a barcode does not make or brake a work.

p.s. I'm not the first person to use a barcode in a fan edit and I won't be the least.

I think it really comes down to personal preference. I agree somewhat with Rikter - adding a barcode kind of makes it look like you're trying too hard or that you're trying to fool someone. A barcode is only on retail DVDs in the first place because it HAS to be. If you're creating one yourself, why bother with it? The same goes for fine print/legal mumbo jumbo. I don't really think a barcode makes a cover look any more professional, but to each his own I guess...

I decided to take a different approach for my MST3K discs. With over 200 episodes, burning a CDR and printing a label for each one is pretty time consuming and expensive. Instead, I'm burning them to DVD which can hold up to 6 per disc. I should have gone this direction in the first place before I burned the first 50 episodes. Oh well, at least I didn't print all the labels...

I don't understand this "trying too hard, fooling someone" rubbish. And I'm far from the only person putting barcodes on fan edits. As I said before, film posters, dvd covers, etc, etc, are graphic art, are ads first, fan created or no, commercial art. The dvd covers made by most fans here are created with promotional photographs, film posters , fonts, logos, etc, a barcode is simply a futherence to that, a preference.

I stand by the artwork, take it or leave it. If you want to nitpick because there's a barcode in it, be my guest.

Yeah, imagine that. Although I heard you do have a barcode in place of where sexual organs should be, I thought that was strange.

But anyway, yes it's very nice artwork.

p.s. It's finally official. A Donner director's cut Of Superman 2 will be released as a special edition, along with the Lester Theatrical version.

This isn't a cover for a fan project or anything like that. And I know that this isn't as good as some of the stuff that's been shown in this thread so far, but I'm actually looking for ideas on how to improve it. I don't like the back, but I'm stumped as to what else I might be able to do with this.

I hate the fact that I have 28 different Godzilla DVD's (29 if you count that horrendus '98 U.S. version - which I don't) and they don't have a uniform look to them. I wanted to make something that would really present itself nicely on the shelf. When all 28 DVD cases are lined up, the spines form a larger version of the Godzilla logo like the one pictured on the front and back of the case.

http://www.jedidefender.com/dcastle/01godzilla1954.jpg

The front uses the original Japanese poster artwork for the movie in question. The biggest problem I currently have is that the only artwork I have access to has all come from the internet and it's not that great quality - but I'm trying to make do with what I can get my hands on.

Any suggestions for the back (or anything else) are greatly appreciated.
