There won't be a limit imposed on images within posts and signatures. You'll have options within the control panel for handling images, however. You can elect to replace any images in posts or signatures with a link to the image; clicking the link will open the image in a new browser window. There are separate controls for post content and signature content, so you can enable this option for only one or both.
This functionality is finished and will be in the beta.
Perhaps I'll investigate functionality that scans images and loads or blocks them based on certain parameters. Maybe with JavaScript. However, I have to think that such functionality would require downloading the entire image to your browser's cache first or having the server download it and scan it there. Lots of network overhead.
Another option might be to selectively hide images. I could place a link or button on the top left corner of images that would allow users to hide them if they're ridiculously large. You'd still be downloading and viewing them, but if they're too large for your display resolution or they're breaking the page's layout (which shouldn't happen if I've built the templates properly), you could click the button and make the image go away, fixing the page.
That's actually pretty damn clever. I'm patting myself on the back right now.
