Would a chat room ever be an option for this site?

This was suggested quite a while back, but it never materialized for some reason.

When I get home tonight, I'll fire up X-Chat and start the channel (probably #originaltrilogy on Undernet if it's available). Or somebody else can do it if they like. On Undernet, you need to demonstrate the channel has been in use for a while before they'll review your application. You also need at least 10 supporters to back up your application.

I'm now in #originaltrilogy on Undernet. I'm going to stay logged in throughout the day, though I won't actually be present.

My thoughts exactly, Nanner. That's why I was thinking if we could chat in real time, it may reduce some of the clutter on the boards. And since we have such a friendly community here, I think it would be fun too.

Thanks for the quick response, Jay. I went into the room, but no one was there except for you. Let me know what we have to do to get it permanently validated. Once it is, would you be able to add a link to it, like a button next to search, today, help, etc.?

I'll definitely add a link to it somewhere when the new forum software goes up (which is so close to being done now it's almost scary).

can someone explain to me what the difference is between chat rooms and forums, or why they were more prevalant before?

Chat rooms are in real-time. Ever use AOL?
