Yoda talking in OT vs PT, way different

Author
Time
I was watching ESB the other night, and never noticed how normal Yoda talks compared to the PT Yoda. Maybe 10% of the time he talks when he reverses the sentence, as most of the time he trains Luke he really talks in normal sentences.

Then watching the PT Yoda, and almost every sentence he talks in reverse? If you compare him to ESB Yoda, he sounds like an idiot in the PT.

I wonder if Lucas has watched the OT since they came out sometimes........

Yoda seemed to do the reverse talking more habitually in ROTJ. I guess it's supposed to make him seem more mystical or wise or something. But a little of that can go a long way.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.

Red heads ROCK. Blondes do not rock. Nuff said.

"Around the survivors, a perimeter create."

Quite literally the worst line of dialogue in movie history.

Yes, that's the exact moment I realized it had gone too far. That and, "To the forward command center, take me." Revenge of the Sith was much worse with lines like, "A prophecy that misread could have been." I actually had to think for a few seconds as to what that actually meant the first time I heard it. "If into the archives you go, only pain will you find."

"I don't feel that I write very well, but I think I do it better than most people." Just have to roll my eyes with disgust. Yoda was made into one of the dumbest characters.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

i know yoda was such a dignified magical character in empire, turned into an action figure caricature in the pt

I totally agree with everyone about Yoda. Lawrence Kasdan is the only person who should be allowed to write Yoda dialogue. He would never write something like "not if anything to say about it I have." UGH. Imagine how George might do Yoda's Empire dialogue...

"Teach him I cannot. No patience the boy has."

"Be afraid will you. Be afraid will you."

"Try or not you will try. Try there is not."

"Ready are you? What know of ready do you? For eight hundred years trained Jedi have I. Keep on my own counsel who is to be trained. A deep commitment a Jedi must have. The most serious mind he must achieve. This one a long time have I watched. All his life has he looked away... to the future, to the horizon. Never his mind on where he was. Hmm? What he was doing. Hmph. Adventure. Heh. Excitement. Heh. A Jedi craves not these things. Reckless are you!"

"Unlearn what you have learned you must."

"Matter size does not. Me look at. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And should you not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Created by life it is. Makes grow it does. Surrounds us and binds us, it energy does. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. Feel the Force around you must. here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship."

"Reason for your failure that is."

George Lucas was seduced by the dark side. The OOT ceased to exist in his mind and became the Special Editions...." "They're more maching now than movies. Twisted and evil."

Obi-Wan: Yoda, since when do you talk so bad?
Yoda: Budget writers on script cuts since ever.
Obi-Wan: Huh?
Yoda: Budget writers on script cuts since ever, said I.
Obi-Wan: HUH????
Yoda: Budget writers on script cuts since ever, said I. You deaf are?
Obi-Wan: (Force chokes Yoda)
Fine, mister Lucas, while you're at it why dont you replace Lando with will smith?

the young Frank Oz 1979/1980 voice was the best and it was a shame how Frank forgot to keep that voice in Jedi and the PT

Well, he could re-record the voice for all of the films.

I noticed that too. Yoda just sort of became a retard in the PT. I pretty much lost all respect for the PT Yoda when he turned into "Yoda the flying squirrel" at the end of AOTC. I was like, "Well, that's it then. This Yoda is dead to me." The dialogue just clinched it for me.

I did like "Yourself you speak of, or someone you know." line. That seemed to be the only line delivered that made sense. Everything else he said seemed to have been dumped in to a mail-order "Yoda dialogue generator" Quisinart that Lucas concocted at the ranch for latenight shoppers.

what's more pathetic is that Lucas really made a complete hash of him in the prequels when it came to the lightsaber fight....

I actually liked his AOTC and ROTS way of speaking. IMHO, it is TPM, ESB, and ROTJ that Frank Oz should re-record the Yoda dialogue for.

I mean that I seriously velieve that he would sound better if the older Frank Oz re-recorded Yoda's voice for TPM, ESB, and ROTJ. His voice sounds too scratchy and deep in those films, but I liked it in AOTC and ROTS.

ESB and ROTJ shouldn't be touched, plain and simple... if it was because of audio problems, I'd agree with ya, but a subtle voice difference? Listen to Mark Hammill in "Full Throttle", man. Voices do change with age. And besides, I've never noticed any problems with the sound of Yoda's voice. Just his hopeless grammar in the PT.
"The things that stick in my mind and make me laugh were, like, memos worried about whether or not the Wookie should have pants. They're looking at this thing and saying, "Couldn't he have some lederhosen?" This is great. Of all the things to worry about, the Wookie has no pants." -Mark Hamill
