Some words of advice: Linkyo media is garbage, it's about as bad as Princo or Longten (HK crap). It is Supermediastore's "in house" brand, and they are a lousy company. Your best bet is Taiyo Yuden, or possibly Ritek or Prodisc (both top tier Taiwanese media) purchased from rima.com. Ritek's QC has been slipping lately and Prodisc is only slightly better, but these are the best media from TW. Taiyo Yuden is made in Japan and only costs about $.05 per disc more than their Chinese counterparts. The cost increase is actually misleading, since bad burns and media failure due to dye degradation is almost unheard of. You actually spend less over the long run because the media doesn't fail nearly as often. Not trying to needle you, but I've been through the BS with crappy media and found it's much more cost effective to spend slightly more and get the best bulk media you can. I've recently switched to using TY and won't go back.

Sometimes it depends on what media is used, cheap media tends to be less compatible with older players. You'd have to check out a resource webpage such as dvdrhelp.com to see if your player can play any kind of burned discs. Generally, only (some) 2nd or 3rd generation models or newer can do so. PS2's are poor dvd players anyway, so if your standalone player is really that old, you might consider buying a new one, especially considering how inexpensive they are now.

Yeah, I'm holding off on burning anything until the Ritek discs arrive, tonight or tomorrow. I'll throw the Linkyo ones out.

People who are wondering why I often go broke doing these mailings, this is just one of many many reasons.

Anyway. As I said, I'm returning to more of my own film projects now ...

So for the curious ...

Here's the complete first draft of The Chosen Ones (animated series) hourlong pilot. Juuuust finished it! It's a sci fi comedy. Note the Star Wars references.

Just a question, was there anyway, you could have added Lapti Nek exended which was featured in the 1993 laserdisc edition onto the film by any chance?

Not to the movie itself, as that would ruin it.

It's an easter egg.

Uh, sorry I'm new, and not to sound stupid...but where can I get this from? Or is it just like an exhibition. In that case, how do I go about making one?

OCPMovie: While we're waiting for the discs to arrive, would you mind giving us a list of the easter eggs included in Classic Edition:ROTJ?

You can contact me for the discs. I shouldn't have to mention this.

If I told you the easter egges, they wouldn't be easter eggs. =) Why don't YOU tell me what they are, when you get the discs ...

Voulenteering to pay it forward! Classic Edition of ROTJ and also ESB, if possible. But just ROTJ is fine too. I can pay both forward.

EDIT: Sorry, what I meant was that I am offering to pay them forward if someone can send them to me initially. I don't actually have ESB or ROTJ.

My stance on revising fan edits.

The PC equivalent is to buy a Macintosh.

Could also get the hacked version of the new Mac OS and set up a dual boot system. It runs on Intel systems...

LOL.

I'm sure there are good PC DVD programs, but I don't use one or care.

What is DVD studio Pro's PC equivalent?

This question is like a meatball over home plate....

....must....resist....knee....jerk....answer....

THERE IS NO EQUIVALENT. Man, just I couldn't stop myself there. Too easy

As far as the dual boot option goes, you'd be running DVDSP on totally unsupported hardware and under emulation (Rosetta environment) because none of Apple's pro apps have been released for Intel Macs yet (end of March). Just get the real thing. It's OK, the water's just fine....

You can go about your business. Move along, move along.

I threw out 150 blank Linkyo DVD-Rs today. The order form says I bought 400, which is hard to believe. But that's what it says. I've been using these discs for a while. I'm not sure if I used them for the Empire release.

I bought a new burner too, just in case - my third. Yet another reason you always go broke at some point doing this kind of thing. Do you need the other two dozen reasons?

I'm lucky in that a lot of people asked for this Jedi disc, and I just got a good steady job in Hollywood, so those two things worked together to make sure my bank account didn't get overdrawn this time. As long as I can avoid taking that hit, I come out safely at the other end.

Anyway.

I feel really bad wasting all that $$ and throwing out all the Linkyo discs, but I did have some problems with them. Personally I couldn't get them to play half the time. Even the burners at work had trouble with them.

The weird thing is, the couple of complaints I've gotten don't match at all what the problems were on my end. This time round I tested every disc. I didn't send out a single disc if it didn't play in at least the Sony player in the other room, if not my Panasonic. If they worked in the Sony but not the Panasonic, they were marked "questionable."

I thought that the Star Wars discs would probably have problems. But basically all the Jedi discs I sent out had tested fine even in the Panasonic. I wanted the Jedi run to be perfect, and I threw out a lot of otherwise fine discs. Some of the Empires were good on the Panasonic, some of them weren't.

So anyway, I get this letter today saying that hey, the Star Wars disc was fine, but the others played halfway and locked up after a certain point etc ...

.....

The hell?

Sooo, none of the discs had compatibility problems. The Star Wars disc which shouldn't have been good was. The other discs which should have been good played and then stopped.

There is NOTHING in the tests I did on these discs to support any of that. When I tested the discs I tested them to the end. They all played on the Sony to the end. The only problem would be if they didn't play at all.

Oh, to hell with this. DVD duplication is a voodoo science with no rhyme or reason to it.

But whatever the problems are, I still blame the Linkyo. I never had a problem with the Ritek discs - very rarely anyway.

Guess the Ritek discs will be in on Monday ...

I'll hold off burning til then. Y'all deserve that.

OCP, I finally decided to take a look at your website (burning the midnight oil finishing a DVD project of my own), and I'm mightly embarrased to say that I finally understand what "OCP" stands for.

That is all...

(Before anyone bugs me - the "DVD project" is not the X0 project. )

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

Sorry about my earlier post... I don't actually have ESB or ROTJ. I was asking if someone could send them to me, and THEN I could pay them forward. Sorry, I'll be more clear next time.

Have put Coov's three (plus) versions of the Jedi cover up. At some point I'll put together my own take on it. The disc art is also there.

Why no text on the back like on SW and ESB on Coov's covers?

Aside from that, a bit of constructive criticism on it to make it more in line with the SW/ESB efforts:

- Change the back logo so there's no box around it, and likewise no "STAR WARS" - simply "RETURN OF THE JEDI"
- Change the spine logo so it's the same as the back logo, but with the same above change - no box, no underline and no "STAR WARS"
- Goes without saying: the text on the back

This would make the spines match, and keep the back of the cover the same style as the others.

What I mean for the logo is, just make it simply like so:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v58/chainsawash/jedilogo.jpg

Keep the front logo the same. On the SW and ESB covers, the front logo was one style, while the spine and back logos were the same, yet different from the front, and ESB's spine/back logo had no border and no "STAR WARS," unlike the front, which had both.

Other than that - excellent work!
