ROTFLMAO!!! That just made me think of an "alternate" version of their conversation about his father! This is a modified version of one I posted here before, but funnier. Can you imagine if that exchange took place between Obi-Wan and Luke went something like this:

Luke: How did my father die?

Obi-Wan: (Says his response from ANH)

Luke: (looks at Obi-Wan suspiciously)

Obi-Wan: (stares at Luke with a sad face)

Luke: I want the truth!

Obi-Wan: You can't handle the truth!

(the two set there is silence for a moment taking occasional glances at each other)

Obi-Wan: Oh, ok. The truth is, your father is Darth Vader. He killed the majority of the Jedi with that very lightsaber you hold in your hands. He also intended to kill your mother, who died of a broken heart, by the way.

Luke: (his jaw drops and he just stares at Obi-Wan in awe)

Obi-Wan: Soooooo..... to make a long story short, he and I got in a horrific lightsaber duel on Mustafar, a lava planet. I wen there with the intention to kill him. But..., wel, I didn't.

Luke: (keeps looking at Obi-Wan with the same expression)

Obi-Wan: Well... we fought and I chopped both of his legs and his only remaining human arm off, before I watched him catch on fire and burn, before I left him for dead on the side of a lava river. (Looks at Luke with a very uncomfortable expression)

Luke: (with his same expression of awe...) YOU SON OF A BITCH!!! (Ignites lightsaber and slic3s Obi-Wan in half, and proceeds to join the Dark Side, join Darth Vader, kill him, kill Palpatine, and take over the galaxy.)

THE END.

A further modified version:

Luke: How did my father die?

Obi-Wan: (Says his response from ANH)

Luke: (looks at Obi-Wan suspiciously)

Obi-Wan: Is it answers that you want?

Luke: I think I'm entitled-

Obi-Wan: Do you want ANSWERS?!

Luke: I want the truth!

Obi-Wan: You can't handle the truth! Son, we live in a world guarded by men with lightsabers. Who's going to do it? You? I have a deeper responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You praise your father and you curse the Jedi. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know, that your father's death, while tragic, probably saves lives, and my existence while pointless, and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down inside, you want me on that starship. You NEED me on that starship. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you are entitled to!

Luke: Did you fight and maim my father?

Obi-Wan: I followed my orders...

Luke: DID YOU FIGHT AND MAIM MY FATHER?!?!

Obi-Wan: YOU'RE GODDAMNED RIGHT I DID!!!!!

*awkward pause*

Obi-Wan: You must learn the ways of the Force, young Luke, if you are to come with me to Alderaan.

Luke: Don't call me young Luke. I'm an officer, in the Imperial academy. And you're under arrest, you son of a bitch.

THE END.

lol good one adam,

any way traitor is all about jacen solo and him coming of age pretty much. and your right stover is a very prosey writer, if you want shit loads of action dont read traitor, if you want a really thought provoking read, about life in genral read it. its funny cause there were points in the book were i would read a page and wonder if i could maybe write a english commentary on the work, cause it is that kind of literature. its like a sci-fo novel that falls in the grade level of books like the catcher in teh rye, or the lord of the flies.

Only from a certain point of view...

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

Even though Lucas didn't have the whole backstory writen yet, you can see it in Alec Guinness' acting when Luke asks him, "How did my father die?" You see him shift uncomfortably and pause and think about how he is going to "break the news" to Luke. He couldn't bear to tell Luke the truth, so he didn't flat out lie, but he sure bent the truth.

Luke knew nothing of his father. Why should Obi-Wan burden him with how horrible a person he turned out to be? Tell him about the man he was, not the man he became. He knew that if Anakin had died in battle or something, he would have wanted Luke to have his father's lightsaber. Sure, Anakin never flat out told Obi-Wan that, but the two were close and Obi-Wan was making assumptions that he was sure to be true.

Whatever the explaination for Obi Wan lying its these and many things that make me think Lucas did a awful job in connecting the Trilogies, in my opinion
Author

What, wait? There are two trilogies? I thought there was just the one trilogy and the other 3 bungled together CGI-fest movies that desperatly cling to the back of the originals like a spinless seventh grader begging to be accepted by the cool high school kids.

then why do you like the idea that obi wan lied about everything? the only lying i accept from obi wan is the part about ader everything else he says is what actually happened

Nice arguments, it really elevates the debate...

Hey, it's a pretty funny visual, though.

ok seriously get out, why does everysingle thread have to be brought to a PT bashing thread, this is about the EU not the PT, its about the books NOT the movies, so if you are going to comin here and talk about how bad the mvoies were or anything of that such then just get the fuck out.

One thing I will never understand is some people's hatred towards the EU. The majority of EU works are clearly designed by enthusiastic Star Wars fans with the intent to provide good, entertaining, many times thought provoking stories. And, unlike Lucas, those in charge of the EU pay extreme attention to continuity to the point where there are very few continuity errors. And those errors that do exist typpically exist simply because Lucas changes his films and alters the story. There are only a few cases where I can see someone holding a grudge against the EU, like the Dark Empire series or...(I'm struggling to say it) The Star Wars Holiday Special. But the majority of EU attempts to actually add something to the story, unlike detract from it like Lucas has from time to time. Yes, some EU stories are bad apples like the ones I mentioned, but they are not really representative of the EU as a whole. The intent at Lucas Liscensing is to provide quality entertainment to its readers, not destroy their enjoyment of the saga.

And I always hate seeing these canon debates start up on TF.N and places. What I find hilarious is that the majority of the bashers say stuff like "Well, of course the Clone Wars cartoon is canon. But the books are not. The books suck. But the video games are fun." It makes me wonder if these same people have actually read a Star Wars novel, or if they just don't want to in fear that they might enjoy themselves.

Troy Denning (a common EU author) has said that he sees each author's stories as simply their version of a fairy tale, with Lucas' version being simply his own interpretation; as a whole, Lucas', along with their works would function as a complete story, but from different points of view.

hey i agree with you adamwan. like i said i lost interest because of how many books have come out and how bored i am with the prequels in general. but i too feel they are canon, if not then whats the point?

Where did you read that?!?
Sorry, but your way of thinking just get me upset. You would tell anything just to destroy the man who is at the origin of an important part of your life, the OT. Ok, you don't like the PT (and anything that is not the O-OT, it seems...), but please stop saying lies, just to comfort you in your theory...

Ok, so. We were talking about EU books. Let's talk.

Ive have been tempted by the EU once or twice, but never bothered, the only Star Wars novel i have ever read is Splinter of the Minds Eye all those years ago, and the only Star Wars book i own is The Star Wars Poster Book.

yeah i know which one your talking about, thats the first book of the NJO series, and man if lucas ever wanted to make a post OT TV show, she better base it on that series, cause can you imagin how cool that would be. the book traitor is book 13 of that same series, i would suggest you read them battlewars, cause they truely put the war back in star wars.

it funny cause b4 i started reading that series, i was never really a SW fan i had seen the orginals and didnt think much of them. and that was it but after i read the books i became way more interested. i really liked the PT but for those of you that didnt like the clone wars the NJO series is like the clone wars done right.

I remember reading, back when I was about five or six, a six-book series by Paul and Hollace Davids, the first of which was The Glove of Darth Vader, and the last was Prophets of the Dark Side. I don't remember a damn thing about them, but I remember enjoying them when I was little.
