Pretty weird Databank entry... LOL

I've just seen this extremly sci-fi style databank entry on the starwars.com homepage:

It's pretty weird, isn't it?
Well, it's not new, but the funny thing is that it's on the homepage. I guess the databank preview is made randomly... bad choice!

Yeah, it's based on two things in continuity:

In the ANH novelization, when Obi-Wan makes an analogy involving ducks in water, Luke asks Obi-Wan: "What's a duck?"

And in TPM, when R2 and the droids are attempting to fix the shields when they are leaving Naboo, Captain Panaka says "If they don't get those shields up, we'll be sitting ducks."

And if I remember well, I think there are some ducks on Naboo (especially when the bongo arrives at Theed in TPM). Maybe I'm wrong...

Hmm, I don't remember that in the novelization. Do you have a quote or placement in the story?

There is no lingerie in space…

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

"Owen was always afraid that your father's adventurous life might influence you, might pull you away from Anchorhead." He shook his head slowly, regretfully at the remembrance. "I'm afraid there wasn't much of the farmer in your father."

Luke turned away. He returned to cleaning the last particles of sand from Threepio's healing armature. "I wish I'd known him," he finally whispered.

"He was the best pilot I ever knew," Kenobi went on, "and a smart fighter. The force…the instinct was strong in him." For a brief second Kenobi actually appeared old. "He was also a good friend."

Suddenly the boyish twinkle returned to those piercing eyes along with the old man's natural humor. "I understand you're quite a pilot yourself. Piloting and navigation aren't hereditary, but a number of the things that can combine to make a good small-ship pilot are. Those you may have inherited. Still, even a duck has to be taught to swim."

"What's a duck?" Luke asked curiously.

"Never mind. In many ways, you know, you are much like your father." Kenobi's unabashed look of evaluation made Luke nervous. "You've grown up quite a bit since the last time I saw you."
- ANH novelization

(Many years ago, I found a Japanese website that had the full text of all three novelizations - with occasional spelling errors. )

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Yeah, that's right. I forgot that one. They have some strange things in Star Wars. Do you remember the horses and the rabbits and other earthly animals they had in the Ewok movies?

Yeah, and it's pretty sure that they have used those "real-world" animals just cause of the pretty low budget (I mean, it was just TV movies).
The interesting thing is that in the excellent book "The Wildlife of Star Wars" (a must-have for every SW creature fan), the Ewok ponys and horses are described as "equus", "found in several planets", and have a "mysterious" origin.
I've always loved the reference books just for that: they always explain all the strange things (and even the contradictions) of the SW universe in really well done explanations.

Yeah, I love how The New Essential Chronology explained that the Droids series was in continuity because R2 and 3PO were "lost" for a while from the Tantive IV, and wound up with a bunch of other masters before being returned to the Tantive IV, sometime prior to ANH. Yeah, those reference books try to explain away everything, including those strange Marvel comics from the 80's.

Well, you have to give them credit for trying to explain everything that they can in a realistic manor, since Lucas is the king of contradictions and inconsistancy.

I'm not sure there are more "contradictions and inconsistancy" in SW than in the Bible, but... LOL
