i was excited as hell. i was 15 when TPM was coming out, and it was gonna come out on my birthday, which seemed so awesome. a bunch of us skipped school one day to wait in line for the tickets. we were so stoked, and we were gonna see it at midnight and everything. those were some great memories.

and then it was over, forever.
all the hope i had for the prequels was ruined.

I'll neverforget Revenge of the Sith. It reminded me so much of Rocky V, I couldn't believeit.

http://www.totalrocky.com/films/rockyv/photos/barfight.jpg Yo! You were the chosen heavyweight!

I love this movie. It's hardly the same story aside from the broken relationship aspect and the fall to the dark side, yo.

Nevermind, terrible joke. TPM holds the most meaning for me as a PT flick. It was the rebirth of star wars, a time of confused joy, a time of rebellion and soulsearching, and a kickass lightsaber battle at the end of it. One may look at RotS and say "Well this was done so damn well, and I loved this, way better than TPM." But that's BS, probably haven't seen TPM in a looooooooooooong time and vaguely remember it. I like it besides the embarassing garbage that should have stayed out because it has somewhere inside it, hard to explain, but some feeling of an attempt to recapture the OT's greatness. AotC felt lazy and undercooked. RotS felt rushed, though some parts are beyond excellent it's frustrating to want to put it down completely.

I've got to say, seeing Lightsabers again at the beginning of TPM sent a wave of orgasmic joy through me I'll never forget.

My best PT memory came just before seeing TPM. There was a new Edwards Cinema with a grand opening, and we went there to see TPM. They had Vader and stormtroopers out front (ironic, now that I think about it), and there was a really celebratory mood all around. I was sooooo stoked to be there and see this film.

And then.....I saw it.....'nuf said.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

I belive the whole antecipation before the films, specially for TPM, was a much more positive experience than the movies themselves. I remember I was so preocupied and nervous of not being able to see the films, calling people to see if there were going, and calling movie theaters to see if they were selling tickets already, and going on my lunch time to the theaters and buying those, 2 weeks or so before the movie (because I didn't trust buying over the internet)...

I remember the day before TPM came out, Leonard Maltin was on Entertainment Tonight and he was one of the first reviewers to see the film, and I'll never forget what he said:

Interviewer: Leonard, you saw TPM last night, how was it?

Maltin: Uhh..............it wasn't bad, uhh.......................it's not a bad film. (Saying it very reluctantly)

Interviewer: Is it like the old Star Wars movies?

Maltin: It's definitely different than what people may expect.

I remember watching that and saying to myself, "I have a bad feeling about this." Oh shit, something is not right about this film.

Remember guys, before TPM came out, it wasn't fashionable to bash Lucas, once the movie came out, and alot of fans were way disappointed, that is when everyone started burying it, cause it deserved it. But if look at interviews done before it came out, they never buried it, cause Lucas was still god at that time. By AOTC, reviewers were going to bury the film if they felt, Lucas was not untouchable anymore.

Yeah, the hype was the fun part. Not the movies. I have more fun remembering the fun that I thought I was going to have, than the disapointment that followed later.

'Tis better to have hyped and sucked than to have never have hyped at all.

-- I found a picture in my aunt's picture box of me and my best friend back in 10th grade while the two of us were on a weekend vacation. We are both wearing TPM shirts. Me with Obi-Wan battling sith, and she with a Pod racer shirt. *sigh* We were so young...

I remember watching this TV show on cable a week before the premiere or so, and they were saying how big this movie would be, and one of the guys on that show, who was a music producer said "well, I have contact with people who has seen the movie, and I can guarantee you this will BOMB, it's a bad, bad film...", a "weak film", that's what he said, and I remembered thinking "who is this guy to say anythng like that", but THAT was the first time I thought it COULD be bad.

Eventually, he was not 100% correct. It was worse than what he said it would be, and it did not actually bomb.

Hmm...lots of good memories.

TPM (lemme see...'99...23 yrs old), this was before GL was releasing the films worldwide on the same day. Me and 3 friends actually flew to florida (from the UK) for 2 weeks, just to see this NEW Star Wars film as soon as possible. A kick ass holiday (a not so kick ass film), buying the NEW toys (all since sold on ebay, along with my entire toy collection...but man, you should see my bookcases!). My biggest memoty of that holiday, fighting with my mate Bam, by the swimming pool, with our lightsabers, attacking so hard with my Qui-Gon saber that his Maul one actually broke....in the middle

AOTC...midnight showing with an ex-girlfriend (actually an ex at the time). No post-relationship sex. No kick ass film

ROTS..ruined by geeks (almost). Yes, I'm a geek, but I try not to act it, loudly, in a cine, a full of people. Plus the guy was fat and had greasy hair. But still, it was the last one, the last SW film ever (Please God, touching wood as I speak). Leaning forward, staring at the screen, slack jawed during the Duel. Honestly nearly cried (something I've only ever done as an adult twice)

I think the term is "knock on wood." When you say "touching wood" it sounds like a personal sexual act.

I don't know Jenny- have you *read* some of the posts in this forum, especially from the younger PT fans?? I think your analysis might be appropriate.

Perhaps you guys should take into account that there also may be members who are not native english speakers (like myself) and thus are bound to make mistakes when it comes down to figures of speech and slang terms.

Sifo, I sometimes PREFER the non-native speakers because your English is often better than many of the supposedly *native* speakers here.

In England, we say 'touch wood', and I think that's about as Native English speaking as you can get.

That's true. British English and American English (and Australian english for that mater) are pretty much the same except for the accent differences. There is no dialect difference between them (like with the Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese language.)

But our colloquialisms and some things are different.

America we say "vacation." England they say "holiday."
We say "truck." They say "lorie."
We say "Semi-truck." They say "reticulated lorie."
We say "french fries." They say "chips."
We say "soccer." They say "football."
We say "baby stroller." They say "pramulator."
We say "gas station." They say "petrol station."
We say "piece of paper." They say "piece of parchment."

- True

We say "truck." They say "lorie."
We say "Semi-truck." They say "reticulated lorie."
- Not quite - What you call a truck, we would also call a truck, OR a Lorry (note the spelling). What you call a Semi, we call an ARTICULATED Lorry( which just means the cab moves seperately from the trailer). But nobody says articulated, everybody just says Lorry, whatever kind it is.

We say "french fries." They say "chips."
-True. And what you call chips, we call crisps

We say "soccer." They say "football."
Wrong. The name of the game is and always has been Footbal. YOU call it 'soccer'

We say "baby stroller." They say "pramulator."
-Not really. We call it a buggy or the old style ones like in the cartoons we would call that a Pram (which is short for Pramulator but nobody says that)

We say "gas station." They say "petrol station."
-True. We call it Petrol (short for Petroleum) while you guys call it Gas (short for gasoline)

We say "piece of paper." They say "piece of parchment."
Definitely wrong. We call it a piece of paper. What do you think England is? A time warp to the 1700s?

LMAO, well blame the outlook some teachers across the pond have on europe. To some people we (germany) are still stuck in the pre-1945 era and talk funny like those indiana jones nazis.

Well, you guys have a longer history than us. I always thought that you kept the classic form of "paper" because, well, your country was founded on classics. Kind of how you guys still say "knickers" to this day. The only time we here in America say that word is to make fun of you guys. *wink*

Now that is sad. I've lived in Germany. They are way better technologically than some american parts. Hell, you guys gave us the BMW. My father specifically bought one in the country and had it shipped to the US.
Living in Germany was a lot of fun. You guys have some great food and archetecture. And cars.
